Apple and Google's quisling era unearths the lies they've told to justify monopoly power over the most consequential computing platforms of our lives. If the app stores can't move against Musk/Grok, they should not be trusted with any of the powers they demand:

Naked Power

Apple and Google's app stores stand for nothing and will stand up to no-one. Good riddance.

@snazzyq Hi! As the person who got me into Homebrew, I wonder if you could help me solve a mystery: I am using Intego antivirus and it flags Boost 1.85 as being infected with malware when trying to upgrade. I tried searching the web, and while there is a short discussion on GitHub (https://github.com/orgs/Homebrew/discussions/5318), nobody answers the main question: Is the file *really* infected? I can imagine not many people use antivirus on a Mac, so this could become a problem if it actually was malware….

The real issue the EU needs to tackle is the awkward period when a movie is neither in theaters, nor available to rent/buy. Looking at you, Boy and the Heron

Here's how the "Ship of Theseus" page looked in July 2003 when it was first created! Since then, the article has been edited 1792 times. 0% of its original phrases remain.
The anti-science movement is "organized, it’s well-financed, and it’s politically motivated. It’s doing a lot of damage to the country and to American science and scientists. And now it’s become a lethal force." https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/vaccine-scientist-warns-antiscience-conspiracies-have-become-a-deadly-organized-movement/

@Vivaldi Is there any way to manually update ad-blocking and anti-tracking lists in Vivaldi on iOS? Or does it somehow automatically happen in the background? The ad- and tracking- blocker is kinda useless if it relies on lists which are months old…

A new low, even for #Google. Giving Google permission to share information about you with third-party websites is being falsely advertised as an "ad privacy feature". This is privacy washing at its most extreme. But it gets even worse.

There is a dark pattern on the second screenshot. It isn't just informing you about the fake privacy features. Clicking on "Got it" actually turns on these features that allow Google to use your recent browsing history for ads on third-party websites:

“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.”

Einstein's most famous quote is totally misunderstood

"Imagination is more important than knowledge" is often taken to mean that your conceptions outweigh what's real. That's not what he said.
