My first Central States Communication Association meeting as a presenter will be #CSCA23 in my hometown St. Louis. Refreshing and thrilled to see that mine and Dave Westerman's theory paper on augmented reality and smartglasses was named as a Top Paper for Communication and Technology!

Eager to flesh this one out. =)

Media and Communication is an international peer-reviewed open access journal dedicated to a wide variety of basic and applied research in communication and its related fields.

One thing about this #Retrogaming study that was so interesting was that manipulating the controller people played didn't matter (we thought that older controllers would be less familiar and thus, more likely to trigger historical nostalgia). Instead, people who (a) identified as gamers and (b) appreciated the gaming experience (a more "personal and meaningful" reaction) ended up (c) with higher overall historical nostalgia.

Oh and that earlier Toot! I had to make a correction -- it's an #NCA22 paper on #eudaimonia and #gaming but it wasn't an award paper. Corrected slide samples, below .. and of course, always down to chat more about the "deeper side" of video games. Maybe you'll be in New Orleans next week?
Very geeked to be presenting at #NCA22 next week on our team's deep dive into #Retrogaming and #nostalgia research. We found that when younger players directly engage with novel retrogames (i.e., they they've never played before), those who identify as gamers and who appreciate the experience feel a stronger connection to the history of gaming! Happy to share the full deck, on request. Paper is still under review. =)
