And to be honest, that's not good news.

The Anti-Autocracy Handbook is a call to action, resilience, and collective defence of democracy, truth, and academic freedom in the face of mounting authoritarianism. It tries to provide guidance to scholars navigating the growing global trend of democratic backsliding and autocratization, in particular in the U.S. To this end, it sets out how autocracies often follow a common playbook, built around the “3 Ps”: populism, polarization, and post-truth. Leaders present themselves as voices of “the people” against “corrupt elites”, inflame societal divisions, and undermine facts to avoid accountability. This leads to a cascade of dangers for scholarship, including censorship, restrictions on funding and research collaboration, and even violence. The Trump administration serves as a contemporary example, with policies that curtail international scientific cooperation, revoke research grants, and suppress studies related to public health, climate change and minority issues. Because open inquiry and dissent are central to science and academia—qualities antithetical to authoritarian control—academia is often among the first targets of autocrats. To help scholars resist authoritarian developments, the handbook highlights both historic and contemporary measures aimed at attacking scholars, their institutional environments, and their scholarship. The handbook also sets out a framework for action based on personal risk level—low, medium, high, or extreme. This is designed to help scholars think about their own risk and purposefully choose actions in line with it. The handbook considers tools for enhancing digital safety and highlights the importance of ongoing documentation, preserving imperilled data, and creating distributed archives as a defence against erasure. It also calls on scholars to tell their stories—publicly or anonymously—to inspire others, maintain accountability and preserve a historical record. Accompanying the handbook is a living wiki that will continue to incorporate new developments and provide updates on global efforts by scholars to push back against authoritarianism and safeguard the democratic foundations that enable free inquiry.
On 14h July (though it was already the 15th here), some of my monitoring jails started throwing errors. Not all of them, though. On the same host, an Uptime Kuma instance was showing a ton of servers down, while LibreNMS wasn't displaying any issues. After investigating, I discovered why. The jail running LibreNMS was using local_unbound (integrated into FreeBSD), while the other, perhaps for speed, was using Cloudflare's DNS.
DNS is like email, the Fediverse, and other similar services: they work better and make us freer when they're decentralized.
Let's go back to decentralizing the internet. Its very existence, as we've known it, depends on it.

Frankreich legt das „soziale Leasing“ für E-Autos neu auf: Haushalte mit geringem Einkommen können ab Herbst 2025 wieder Elektroautos zu günstigen Konditionen leasen – für unter 100 Euro im Monat. Die erste Runde war 2023 ein großer Erfolg: Innerhalb eines Monats waren 50.000 Fahrzeuge vergeben. Die Regierung stellt nun erneut 50.000 Fahrzeuge bereit. Ziel ist, Klimaschutz mit sozialer Gerechtigkeit zu verbinden und benachteiligten Gruppen den Zugang zur Elektromobilität zu erleichtern.

Mit einer neuen Verordnung zur Umsetzung des Selbstbestimmungsgesetzes will das Bundesinnenministerium frühere Geschlechtseinträge und Vornamen dauerhaft speichern und an andere Behörden übermitteln. Die Begründung bleibt vage – die Kritik von Verbänden ist dafür umso deutlicher.
Ich rege mich hier nicht über aktuelle politische Ereignisse auf; statt drölfzig Posts dazu nehm ich mir lieber Zeit, an die relevanten Abgeordneten zu schreiben, was mehr Chancen hat.
Bitte alle dran denken, dass die fossilen Lobbyisten einen Abnutzungskrieg führen und Teil der Strategie ist, uns so mit Erregung zu beschäftigen, dass wir keine Zeit und Energie haben, das zu tun, was tatsächlich etwas bewirken könnte.
Also teilt euch bitte die Kräfte ein.

Yup, he's done it before. In April 2017, Chump dropped a MOAB... Just after McCain told the American people to watch what Chump does, not what he says. Media all but ignored McCain's warning and instead jumped all over the MOAB.
Trump had his hands all over Epstein. And probably underage girls, too.
