It's once again time for the Breaking News Consumer's Handbook:

In the immediate aftermath, news outlets will get it wrong.

Don't trust anonymous sources.

Don't trust stories that cite another news outlet as the source of the information.

There's almost never a second shooter.

Pay attention to the language the media uses.

"We are getting reports"…could mean anything.
"We are seeking confirmation"…means they don't have it.
"[News outlet] has learned"…means it has a scoop or is going out on a limb.

Look for news outlets close to the incident.

Compare multiple sources.

Big news brings out the fakers. And photoshoppers.

Beware reflexive retweeting. Some of this is on you.

"Bei Windows ist es in Unternehmen üblich, dass die Geräte bei einem Betriebssystemupgrade (z.B. das bald anstehende von Windows 10 auf 11) ausgemustert und ausgetauscht werden. Dafür muss jeder Mitarbeiter bei der IT ein neues Gerät abholen – inklusive Einrichtung sowie möglicher Probleme. So etwas ist aufwändig und teuer – insbesondere, wenn wir nicht von nur ein paar hundert oder tausend Geräten sprechen, sondern im Falle von Google über 100.000 mit Goobuntu – weltweit verteilt.
Da Ubuntu auf Debian aufbaut, gibt es einen viel besseren Weg: Ein In-Place Upgrade. Das laufende System wird von Ubuntu zu Debian umgestellt. Anfang 2019 wurden die letzten Goobuntu-Systeme migriert, alle laufen seit dem auf gLinux.

Ist gLinux ein Erfolg?

Der Wartungsaufwand konnte mit gLinux erheblich reduziert werden: Mehrstufige Testphasen mit diversen Alpha- Beta und GA-Versionen sind entfallen. Eine Person reicht für die wöchentlichen Aktualisierungen aus, der Stress ist zusammen mit dem Arbeitspensum stark gesunken. Parallel haben verbesserte Tests, mehr Automatisierung und der neuere Kernel von Debian Testing gegenüber Ubuntu LTS zu stabileren Systemen geführt."
