I spend a truly horrifying fraction of my time walking folks who have been doing frontend engineering in anger for many years through the fundamentals of how the browser actually processes content in order to explain just how deeply they've been duped. Tracking code that Meta and Russia-based Yandex embed into millions of websites is de-anonymizing visitors by abusing legitimate Internet protocols, causing Chrome and other browsers to surreptitiously send unique identifiers to native apps installed on a device, researchers have discovered. Google says it's investigating the abuse, which allows Meta and Yandex to convert ephemeral web identifiers into persistent mobile app user identities.

Countries on the edge of the Sahara desert are reversing desertification by just digging half circles.
The ground in these places is too compact for water to soak in during wet season which leads to flooding but digging these holes gives the water a place to stop and soak in. And they’re pushing back the desert with this. By just digging holes.

Tiens, l’ #Insee a profité du pont de l’Ascension pour updater ses données sur les inscriptions sur les listes électorales. Et c’est majeur : pour la 1ère fois en France, les plus de 50 ans sont désormais majoritaires dans le corps électoral. Ils représentent 52% de la population en âge de voter, 3x plus que les moins de 30 ans. Plus fou encore, les plus de 60 ans pèsent à eux seuls plus que l’ensemble des 18-40 ans.
