For the last four days, we’ve been enjoying a visiting family in our backyard. This little cardinal has taken up very chirpy residence there, preferring to perch in an old potted plant that didn’t survive the winter.

It’s been delightful to watch feeding times from our window and a few attempts to fly — getting stuck in the English ivy on the fence was pretty dramatic for the adults.

Fledgling: “Mom, look what I can do!”
Adults: *frantic searching*
Female: “Where did you go? Darryl, come find your kid!”
Male: *hover/eyeroll* “Found them. They’re stuck in the ivy.”
Fledgling: *fly/fall to ground” “Tada! Snack please!”

I’ve never seen a cardinal hover before. Or roll their eyes. 😆

I decided to take the removable keyboard spacers from my framework16 laptop and make them a little more my style.
