Is this painting of King Louis XIV and Molière a lie?
There’s no evidence that Molière dined with the Sun King. Furthermore, if it did happen, it didn’t look like this painting. And I’m not just talking about the lighting.
The work was painted in 1862 by Jean-Léon Gérôme, who was one of the most important artists of his time.

@gahlearner @gg There is a digital copy of The Letter Bag of the Great Western on Google Books and elsewhere. Yes, touching the books does damage them. So, librarians do a risk analysis. It was a popular work at the time, so it's rare, but not an "only."
@seow Even though we live in a digital age, it's still meaningful to hold physical artifacts, especially ones that signify labour and accomplishment.
