I have done a cursed thing that might have been interesting 10 years ago but probably isn't terribly interesting now.
I have gotten the #Oracle Studio Developer 12.6 #compiler (aka #Sun C compiler) running on #FreeBSD creating native FreeBSD binaries. I have a working oksh with this setup.

I'm always telling my students to celebrate their achievements no matter how big or small. So this is me practicing what I preach.

I got a this thing in the mail today.
I am teaching an SSCP bootcamp starting this Wednesday. So I passed the exam a while ago. Still nice to get the whole welcome kit.

One month ago today, I started learning Japanese. My free trial to Busuu is about to end, so I figured I'd take the A1 (beginner-level) test they have. And I passed!
Though I don't think Busuu alone would prepare someone to understand Japanese at all. I barely used Busuu because it was just so slow and covered so little. It's like it gamifies language learning, rather than learning a language. It also says I'm 17% fluent in Japanese which is like... maybe it's off by an order of magnitude. I doubt I'm even 1.7% fluent.
Over the last month, I learned 400 kanji via RTK, about 1000 words from Anki and reading books, read through 2 textbooks, got to level 5 in WaniKani, got halfway through N5 grammar in Bunpro, and listened to hours and hours of Japanese-language podcasts. And (despite the grade), I still got some things wrong on the test. But I was happily surprised how fast I was able to read and understand the long reading section. So the idea of learning a language with one of these apps is... yeah... But! These apps are great to get you into the rhythm of learning a language, provided you quickly move off of them and into real materials.
I will take the JLPT N5 in December, since this Busuu test is hardly a real test.
先月から日本語を学ぶ。今はBusuuのテストをする。私は受かる。私の日本語が悪いです。友達になろう。よろしくお願いします!
Oh hey look I got the new gcobol compiler working on #OpenBSD. It's alpha-level stuff but it can compile quite a lot of code. Here's the ubiquitous hello world in #COBOL. Expect a blog post soon!
