I have some thoughts about making a Persian-speaking community here in Mastodon. This may consists of several steps:
- finding Persian speakers already here
- translate Mastodon interface into Persian
- reporting and fixing RTL bugs in the interface
- making a new instance with Persian defaults
- inviting friends from Twitter, G+, etc. to #Mastodon
If you speak #Persian, #Dari, or #Tajik, please boost this toot!

@bookstodon @linguistics A question prompted by a post I saw: what are the best #ScienceFiction #scifi books where #languages play an important part?
There’s 1984, obviously. Even more obviously, The Languages of Pao by Jack Vance. The Imperial Radch series by Ann Leckie has some interesting language features in terms of gender identity, power and mutual intelligibility.
I’m sure there are loads more - this is ‘off the top of my head’ - what others would you recommend?
Could I tempt you to boost this post, or get involved in a project to customise Linux for users with special needs/learning difficulties? I have two such children. Adults now (18). I want to do something for my boys and for people like them. 🙂❤️

Please spread the word - I'm sure someone out there would love to get involved!
