In the #conlang (CONstructed LANGuage) community, the month of December is the annual challenge to create one word a day for one's conlang(s) for the whole month. Since I am a conlanger myself, I plan to toot at least once a day during this challenge and perhaps replying to many others' toots. Since I am more active in conlanging on the interwebs than I am in #infosec, I have decided to move my account to a more appropriate instance.

Are there any conlangers in Hawai'i? O'ahu to be more precise. Looking to see if there is enough interest—and/or people—to start a local meet up. @conlang #conlang

I have some thoughts about making a Persian-speaking community here in Mastodon. This may consists of several steps:

- finding Persian speakers already here
- translate Mastodon interface into Persian
- reporting and fixing RTL bugs in the interface
- making a new instance with Persian defaults
- inviting friends from Twitter, G+, etc. to #Mastodon

If you speak #Persian, #Dari, or #Tajik, please boost this toot!

How it started How it's going

@bookstodon @linguistics A question prompted by a post I saw: what are the best #ScienceFiction #scifi books where #languages play an important part?

There’s 1984, obviously. Even more obviously, The Languages of Pao by Jack Vance. The Imperial Radch series by Ann Leckie has some interesting language features in terms of gender identity, power and mutual intelligibility.

I’m sure there are loads more - this is ‘off the top of my head’ - what others would you recommend?

Could I tempt you to boost this post, or get involved in a project to customise Linux for users with special needs/learning difficulties? I have two such children. Adults now (18). I want to do something for my boys and for people like them. 🙂❤️

I've already done a bit, using Ansible, with AlmaLinux and Ubuntu: https://github.com/robpomeroy/BrightOS

Please spread the word - I'm sure someone out there would love to get involved!

True story:
When my wife and I went on our first date many moons ago I did something that was a near show-stopper. As we were getting ready I had to fart like a mofo and started sweating because I didn't want to do it in front of her, but we weren't leaving fast enough. Knowing old European doors (this is in Berlin, Germany), I figured I could time my fart at the same time the door was opening in the hopes that the squeak from the door would mask my fart. So she opened the door and I let out a squeak only to find out the door was well-oiled. We looked at each other in horror; I told her I thought the door would squeak and that was my out. Stunned, yet she still went with it.

Fast forward to now. She's on the phone talking to a vendor. I'm massaging her as she sits in a chair; I'm standing. My youngest is sitting behind me playing with her dinosaurs. While she was saying goodbye and just before she hung up, I suddenly without warning let one rip and it was loud; my wife turned around to look at me and my daughter said, "EWWWW!!!" We looked at each other in horror.

Laughing, she finally says, "Why tf did I marry you?!"
