The LAPD is interested in a tool that uses AI to geolocate any photo, not just those taken on the street but also inside buildings with no windows https://www.404media.co/lapd-eyes-geospy-an-ai-tool-that-can-geolocate-photos-in-seconds/
This is almost too perfect. After countless engineering hours, untold resources, and trillions of $ in investment culminate in the disappointment that is GPT-5, Altman desperately scrambles to assure us that AI will be a net positive for humanity despite the bullshit machine he’s just released, and no sooner than he posts this, it immediately elicits the standard response that the use of these machines promotes.
LAPD Eyes ‘GeoSpy’, an AI Tool That Can Geolocate Photos in Seconds

Emails obtained by 404 Media show the LAPD was interested in GeoSpy, an AI tool that can quickly figure out where a photo was taken.

I'm in The Times Magazine today. 2000 words of my writing (an adapted excerpt from my book 'Drystone - A Life Rebuilt')

And it's not really about living with my ex husbands. It's about the roles women are handed and how I just absolutely refuse!

#Scotland #Women #Writing #WritingCommunity #Books #Bookstodon #Writing #Photography

And when you're a woman who only owns work boots and The Times are coming to photograph you...you have to pull this absolute pair of clonkers from the depths of your cupboard and try to make it work.

SIGH

And don't I look great for 46?

(I'm 41)

Lots of people ask about the painting. I wish I knew who it was by. I found it, & fell in love with it, in the back of a junkshop on Dalry Road in Edinburgh 20 years ago. It was 35 quid which for me back then (a single mum on benefits) was a HUGE amount, but very glad I bought it
My daughter just spotted me on the front page!
@kristiedegaris Not many people are glad to make the front page.
@vonxylofon True. Just me and Rod Stewart ;)
@kristiedegaris Congratulations!
@Jargoonco Thank you! And I'd like to metnion that this isn't because of any publisher's book publicity push, I pitched The Times off my own back and they accepted it. Pleased about that.
@kristiedegaris It is amazing how much authors need to do themselves to get work out there these days. Glad it worked out!
@kristiedegaris @Jargoonco ooooh, that's even BETTER!, way to go!! \o/
@kristiedegaris that headscarf is a great look on you! But scared about what happened to your mouth

@kristiedegaris I do occasionally read the Times and I am surprised they still insist on clothing successful women in clothes to impress, one assumes a bald middle aged lothario with aspirations above his station - say the average times subscriber 🤪)

But publicity..

@Wen I never read The Times (except this week ;) I feel like I got off light with jeans and a shirt and then a denim jumpsuit, but my usual is still far more casual.

Most articles in the Times mag are their journalists interviewing someone and then writing it, what's cool is this is about me AND I wrote it.

@kristiedegaris Great. I was just commenting on the Times’ obsession with dressing women up for what are often very sensible and thoughtful interviews. I do wonder whether the editors think that people won’t read the text otherwise.

We have your book on order from the Wedale bookshop and look forward to seeing it.

@Wen they do have quite a strict aesthetic for the mag, and I don't think it's necessary at all. Middle-class aspirational shit though isn't it?

Thanks for supporting my book and a local bookshop! ✨️💫

@kristiedegaris Wee always use a local bookshop.

Not quite sure it is aspirational though, but I would be very interested to know why the interviewees consent!

Anyway, hope things go well.

@kristiedegaris That's hilarious!

Is the article online?

@kristiedegaris Ah :-D That's why I couldn't find it. As an American, I didn't read what you wrote closely enough and I bounced over to time.com instead of thetimes.com

But I'll blame the early hour and lack of coffee instead

@kristiedegaris I just read it. Very very cool. I wish that I could have managed something more civil with my first wife.

OTOH, had I done that, I'm not sure that I would have the relationship that I have with my third wife. We are 26 years into our marriage and still madly in love. And we are grandparents too 😄

I'm just so thrilled for your kids and all three of you parents that you are making it work.

@azemon And I'm glad you've found happiness too. Being a grandparent sounds so wonderful.
@kristiedegaris I think you look super cool, relaxed, real. Authenticity is always the most stylish.
@kristiedegaris wonderful read. Again. Really can't wait to hold the full book in my hands. I think you're great! 💪
@maxheadroom Thank you! I really hope you like the book!
@kristiedegaris from what I've read so far from you the likelihood is very high ;)
@kristiedegaris I wanted your book before because Drystone walls are just generally cool. But now I want it even more because that is the most adult and practical solution to the shits how of modern life I have ever read.
My mom came to love with us to help and support me with my first child and is still here nearly 20 years later.
It doesn't work brilliantly and both she and my husband take a lot of strain, but it allowed me to work and parent, which would not have happened otherwise. #ADHD

@GinevraCat I would never have gotten out from under the weight of parenting/ADHD/ domestic life etc and I would never have been able to write the book without this solution. Parents need support. Mothers need support.

I'm glad you have something similar. We all deserve some ease.

@kristiedegaris That was a great read! Thanks for sharing your story
@nitramiuz Thank you for reading and the kind words! V glad you enjoyed.
@kristiedegaris loved it! Thanks a lot for sharing ❤️ you DO look great!!
@kristiedegaris "the shackles of toddler life" 😫 that's where I'm at currently. In my own co parenting situation.
@shemjm sending strength. It's so intense. And then less so and then intense in different ways. Parenting, as wonderful as it is, should be described as relentless more often 😩

@malin Well, they can now, but they had to be forced to learn. Luckily, now they see the error of their ways and are glad to be functioning at a basic level.
@kristiedegaris From this article, I have learned that in terms of household labour, 2 men = 0.6 women.
@kristiedegaris Assuming I know little about Times but wow, looks like something I'd like to read on the fly, one of yours or itself.
