@jwz Some of those were borderline traumatizing, especially the last one.
Another recent HyperCard discovery (that isn’t somehow in the Internet Archive): an “expanded book” version of William Gibson’s Sprawl Trilogy (Neuromancer, Count Zero, and Mona Lisa Overdrive). https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/neuromancer-count-zero-mona-lisa-overdrive
@toxi @urlyman Following up: it looks like the book can still be purchased online. Bookshop.org has it, as does Amazon.
@toxi @urlyman The domain mentioned at the end of the video is being squatted. Any idea what happened to the ebook he recommends at the end?
A 2026 version of the X-files would have the roles of Mulder and Scully reversed. Scully would attempt to prove the efficacy of institutions and science from a fringe position while Mulder debunks her with memes and mass media talking points. https://mastodon.social/@Daojoan/116050357308592405
@grumpygamer One upside to the age verification madness is that it is becoming easier to get people to consider alternatives to the big online services. This conversation isn’t quite as hard as it once was.
@Migueldeicaza But all those A32/64 registers… what’s not to love?
@mwichary The thinking here is focused on “where is this thing I need at”, which with the arrow is a static piece of information and the volume being dynamic. Either way it’s a symbol for something you’re not able to always maintain context for.
@mwichary The volume slide out on iOS seems like the best candidate for a Moylan analogue. It immediately tells you what the buttons are for and the result of the action you took.

Remember when Mozilla had to lay off the team that was keeping MDN going and start charging for MDN Plus?

Apparently that saved them $1.4 billion. I had no idea documentation was so expensive. The pervasive lack of adequate documentation in this industry suddenly makes perfect sense. https://mastodon.social/@jwz/115979970170577390
