"If you allow the most intolerant voices to be as loud as they want to, you’re going to shut down voices of different opinions as well. So allowing free speech by just allowing all speech is not actually leading to free speech, it just leads to a cesspit of hate.

I think that is a very uniquely American idea of creating this marketplace of ideas where you can say anything you want completely without limits."

Thousands Have Joined Mastodon Since Twitter Changed Hands. Its Founder Has a Vision for Democratizing Social Media

Thousands of users have joined Mastodon since Elon Musk took control of Twitter. Mastodon's founder Eugen Rochko says it's been a vindication

Tip to new #Mastodon users, especially #law #legal #LawFedi types migrating from #lawtwitter:

Welcome! Get situated, say hi, introduce yourself--but don't JUST do that. You bring interesting perspectives on your profession, practice, and #court developments. Start sharing those thoughts!

See an intriguing/silly/unusual legal filing or argument? You've got a whole new audience of people here who are interested and were smart enough to navigate the tech hurdles to get here. Let's hear about it!

I just blocked a certain prominent journo from Twitter. I don’t think she’s a bad person, entirely, but she’s very much a “pick me” and is too quick to try and get the Mastodon culture to conform to her standards. #Twitter
I wrote this thread in response to the question, “What is bad about Twitter?” Thought I’d share: https://twitter.com/arg11/status/1588998520585191424?s=46&t=PEa5Xf7nstqEKpNmzcbQIA

“@JohnKerkhoff @masslon 1) Elon Musk. Up until he took control I enjoyed it. The fact of the matter is he’s one of the least trustworthy people I can think of, and giving him money, eyeballs, ad revenue, and the like is fundamentally repugnant to me and many others. Many of us have begun to see 1/”

So, in the light of what's happening right now... can we migrate out of commercial scientific journals into a free model? Please? 🙄
@arg11 I have a lot of followers over there but I stopped caring about that a long time ago. I know how to get more and keep them but it is work and also requires a degree of pot stirring that no longer interests me. So I get they would not want to “start over.”

There's this pro se law-school dropout who keeps moving to intervene in the #Trump #MarALago special master lawsuit, filing motion and motion replete with #sovcit ramblings and #GOP conspiracy theories.

And all of us courtwatchers, collectively and without any discussion, have decided to just ignore all of his pointless filings.

It's kind of beautiful, really. How often can you get #lawyers to agree on ANYTHING?

Genuinely curious to see what Elom Nusk will do when he realizes that the #Fediverse is eating his lunch. I imagine he’ll come for it. I don’t think he’ll have much success.

🚨 Today I learned

Apparently the 'note' field at the bottom of someone's profile is private to you, & you can add a wee note to remind yourself about them

Such as the reason you first followed is b/c they collect mushrooms or love black garlic or something else not listed in their bio or otherwise obvious 😊

Or perhaps you unfollowed them b/c you love their stuff, but they post too frequently & you need to remind yourself not to get sucked in again 😵

Help your brain! 💪
