@drupal is trying to grow their audience in the #fediverse

"We're actively building presence on Mastodon and Bluesky, platforms that align with our open-source values. We’ll give it 6 months of effort and see if we can grow audiences, and then re-assess.

"If either platform reaches 5,000 followers, we’ll promote them to being a priority platform. We’d love to see them become our preferred platforms."

“This is what a digital coup looks like” shows that Carole Cadwalladr yet again understands the moment we’re in and is willing to say it out loud directly to the techbro oligarchy: “You are collaborators. You are complicit.”

This is your reminder...

There is no algorithm that brings posts to your timeline. The only posts you will see under your Home tab will be either people that you follow, or the boosts from people that you follow.

BOOSTING IS THE LIFE BLOOD OF MASTODON.

If you read something that is interesting, funny, thought provoking, news worthy, or beautiful, then BOOST IT.

Hitting "Favorite" lets the poster know that you liked it BUT IT DOESN'T LET ANYONE ELSE KNOW.

Keep Mastodon alive. BOOST.

This week, my employer (Lullabot), laid off 16 of the most brilliant, talented and amazing human beings I have ever met (though I was not one of them, and you better believe the survivors guilt is rough).

If you or your company are looking for a #frontend, #backend, or general #webdev developer within the #drupal community (or outside of it), please message/reply so I can make a connection!

@redsad I mean, they asked…
@redsad Awesome, hope I get the opportunity to do this sometime.
@redsad I'm going to use those answers if electricity transfer company ever asks similar questions.
For real... Haven't checked on this lately, but I noticed that my local utility BGE would routinely take payment clear out of my bank account, but not post it as received in my account with them. What was going on with that money not being shown on their books?

@redsad My waste collection company keeps sending me a rating (1-10) survey. The first question is always “How likely are you to recommend us to your friends and family?” They are the ONLY choice so why do they ask?
@jimluther @redsad software products that my company uses keep asking us (employees) the same question - like, no. I had no say in it, and neither does anyone else who uses it.

@redsad

I switched to heat pumps and managed to ditch them despite the monopoly

@redsad

What could we do better to serve you?

Not burn the planet down with fossil fuels.

@redsad

This is excellent! You better believe whenever they ask me to take a survey I'm saying the same damn things.

My electric company when I lived in the mountains was a co-op. An actual co-op. We all "owned" it. I even got dividend checks back at the end of the year. $12 or so, usually, but it's the principle of the thing.

I would love to see cities run their own utilities. Though we do have a city nearby in the same county who does that and they're not good at it... and they still have to contract with the larger energy provider for repairs. So we all have a long way to go.

A couple of summers ago, when we had a ridiculously long electricity outage region-wide, I looked up the pay and bonuses of the top CEOs of the electric company here.

The head dude had only been in the job 2 1/2 years, came from some completely different type of organization (read: he had never been a lineman), and was scarpering away with $8.6 million per year in pay and bonuses out of the money that we paid in to keep our lights on. 🤬

I'm thinking, my dude, private schools for your X number of children's can't cost that much per year, can they? You can only eat one steak at a time, right? Only live in one luxury home at a time? Only fly in one jet at a time? It's sick, and not in the way that means good.

@redsad I left similar comment to a nation wide ISP, that bought out all the local options, then instantly did a price hike while lowered the speeds and introduced random network connectivity issues to my fibre connection.

I can only assume that feedback was discarded as just "the mandatory disgruntled customer who does not represent our customer base as whole". The rest were very positive about the price hike and exciting moments of feeling unplugged.

@redsad

Boom! Ha! On the nose!
