This is excellent! You better believe whenever they ask me to take a survey I'm saying the same damn things.
My electric company when I lived in the mountains was a co-op. An actual co-op. We all "owned" it. I even got dividend checks back at the end of the year. $12 or so, usually, but it's the principle of the thing.
I would love to see cities run their own utilities. Though we do have a city nearby in the same county who does that and they're not good at it... and they still have to contract with the larger energy provider for repairs. So we all have a long way to go.
A couple of summers ago, when we had a ridiculously long electricity outage region-wide, I looked up the pay and bonuses of the top CEOs of the electric company here.
The head dude had only been in the job 2 1/2 years, came from some completely different type of organization (read: he had never been a lineman), and was scarpering away with $8.6 million per year in pay and bonuses out of the money that we paid in to keep our lights on. 🤬
I'm thinking, my dude, private schools for your X number of children's can't cost that much per year, can they? You can only eat one steak at a time, right? Only live in one luxury home at a time? Only fly in one jet at a time? It's sick, and not in the way that means good.
