Italy’s new Piracy Shield has just gone into operation and is already harming human rights there

<p>Back in October, Walled Culture wrote about the grandly-named “Piracy Shield”. This is Italy’s new Internet blocking system, which assumes people are guilty until innocent, and gives the copyright industry a disproportionate power to control what is available online, no court orders required. Piracy Shield went live in December, and has just issued its first …</p>

Just received an Amber Alert on my phone. I go to click the link and it’s to …The Site Formerly Known as Twitter… and it doesn’t allow me to see the post because I don’t have an account.

Gee, who could have EVER foreseen that putting all our emergency services social media eggs into a single basket owned by a private company would turn out to be a bad idea?

#WhyStillUsingBrandX?

Also what's up with the #android keyboard capitalizing almost every word I type? This started happening a few weeks ago. Am I the only One with this problem?

Just discovered that a bank does not let me login by typing my password because it's too long (copying and pasting works).

This is not the first time something like this happens to me. What's up with banks and their hate for long passwords?

the most computer industry thing I've ever seen is a message saying "this manual is printed on recycled paper" and the little recycling logo

on an official manual PDF, included on installation CD of the software. what... what paper?

@frameworkcomputer I suggested already to Framework to make a printer:

Framework could make repairable printers/multi-function devices

I am leading the OpenPrinting project and with this I am responsible for the printing stack of Linux and generally all Posix-style operating systems. On the Ubuntu Summit 2023 in Riga @Daniel_Schaefer from Framework has given a nice talk about Frameork’s repairable/upgradable laptops: After the talk I had a nice hallway session with him where he has shown me the repairable laptops from Framework and how easy it is to (hot-)swap parts. Now I am looking into whether I continue w...

I saw this online somewhere and I just had to recreate it. This is my coding happy place.
@popey needless to say, happy to help if needed

@popey hey mate, is the Mastodon instance having a day? I'm starting to receive tens, maybe hundreds of notifications via email, but 0 notifications on the web UI.

I guess these were all old email notifications that didn't get sent until now?

Anyhow, this is not a big deal for me, just wanted to let you know

#KoreanAir wins the prize in my heart for the worst airline in the world (so far):

- Got woken up 3+ times by flight attendants on a red-eye flight for silly reasons (e.g. for snacks)
- Hard case of a luggage completely destroyed
- Wheel of another luggage torn apart
- Still haven't received my reimbursement for the damages after more than 2 months, and I'm now getting ghosted
