The “He Gets Us” campaign could’ve dropped that $100 million to feed and house homeless individuals. Or they could’ve created shelter and housing for abused women. Or resources for the influx of immigrants. Instead they bought two Super Bowl ads saying Jesus did, and was, all those things. It doesn’t matter what the message is in the ad, their actions say plenty.

At a wildlife rehab facility I met two crows that said, "caw" in a human accent. They said it like a human reading the word "caw" aloud. The tech shook her head and said, "they're making fun of us. People say 'caw' to them all day, so they've started impersonating us." I <3 crows
@Infrogmation wow. I had no idea those historical sites were under private ownership until now…
@elazar the company I used to work for, Civix (nee GCR) is usually looking for developers - HQ is in Metairie. Worth checking out… https://workforcenow.adp.com/mascsr/default/mdf/recruitment/recruitment.html?cid=aab7acc9-174e-4bd6-b3e2-66bc0551a15f&ccId=19000101_000001&lang=en_US

@bluishorange fun fact: “Feefs” is how my 8-year old daughter still says the word “thieves.”

#JohnMastodon is proof that things *CAN* go viral here on Mastodon, but the key is that *YOU* are the algorithm. The reason that the John Mastodon meme showed up on other people's timelines is because so many users boosted the posts.

The lesson here is: please don't just favourite something if you really enjoyed it; BOOST it so that other people can enjoy it, too! This is the only reason why I bother to create as large a social graph as I can on Mastodon—to act as an amplifier. You can, too!❤️😉

There's always a tweet.
Can't speak for others, but the general ambient temperature over here, & the cosmetic & functional differences between here & Twitter, are, for me, all features & not bugs. When I toggle over to the bird app the vibe is rapid-fire, lever-pellet: mildly aggravating, at a constant pulse. Here, the absence of promoted posts & of an algorithm makes for something much more like the younger internet -- and, to me, the better, the fresher and more curious internet. Learning curve, sure, but just better

Banning Mastodon and journalists isn't a power move. It's a move one makes when they are trying to cling to the last shreds of power and it's slipping through their fingers. The Mastodon ban is a naked admission that his own platform is failing and that's where people are going. Banning journalists is a naked admission that he knows he's lost control of the narrative.

Sure, he could have just tried being a decent person but honestly I don't think he knows how. It's almost pitiable.
