I am #LookingForWork. Unfortunately, I joined the ranks of those affected by #TechLayoffs last week, very suddenly and unexpectedly.

I'm a #SoftwareEngineer with over 20 years experience in the industry. I've worked primarily with #PHP, #JavaScript, and #TypeScript, but can also handle #Python and #Java in a pinch. I also have some experience with #AWS, #Docker, and #Terraform.

My resume is here: https://github.com/elazar/resume

Boosts and leads are much appreciated.

@elazar the company I used to work for, Civix (nee GCR) is usually looking for developers - HQ is in Metairie. Worth checking outโ€ฆ https://workforcenow.adp.com/mascsr/default/mdf/recruitment/recruitment.html?cid=aab7acc9-174e-4bd6-b3e2-66bc0551a15f&ccId=19000101_000001&lang=en_US

@elazar Caregility is hiring a backend software engineer. Caregility.com
@elazar Hi! Maybe off your track completely - and I have no current insights into the jobs available - but if you enjoy the communication aspect, maybe tech writing is worth exploring, especially for remote roles?
Best of luck in any case
@Annela I do enjoy technical writing, but I don't come across many roles that call for it exclusively, and the few that do offer significantly less in the way of salary than other positions I've taken in the past. I do appreciate the suggestion, though; thank you. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
@elazar
Might have been an idea to state *where* you are looking as this is a global app.
@DanielleDanvers Good point, thank you! I am a citizen of and authorized to work in the United States. ๐Ÿ™‚

@elazar We canโ€™t tell what country you live in.
@oliverromain@mastodon Sorry about that! Truth be told, I didn't expect this post to have as wide of a reach as it apparently has. I'm based in Louisiana in the USA.
@elazar we use #golang here; having prior experience in other languages is not a deal breaker at all. https://Sodahealth.com/careers - if youโ€™re interested in the Full Stack position, LMK.

@jondowdle Applied and mentioned that you referred me. Thank you very much! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
@jondowdle Heard back about my application: it seems they're only considering candidates with strong #golang experience at the moment, which unfortunately takes me out of the running. Appreciate you passing the lead along, though; thank you. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
@elazar @jondowdle My previous company is using Go and has hired a lot of engineers and the only requirement was to be willing to learn and use Go, but not to already know it. Any competent developer can learn Go quite quickly, and thatโ€™s one of the main reasons why we are using it.
@ngrilly @jondowdle It's been on my list of technologies to investigate, I just hadn't gotten around to doing so yet. I've seen it mentioned in a number of job listings, but I can't say that I've encountered many companies who were willing to let you learn it on the job, even if it was designed to be conducive to that circumstance. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ
@elazar @jondowdle I hope youโ€™ll find a job you like soon.
@ngrilly @jondowdle Thank you. So do I. โค๏ธ
@elazar I found this using #jobsearch. You can try that hashtag if this post isnโ€™t what youโ€™re looking for as Iโ€™m a science person and not IT. https://mastodon.world/@jobsfordevelopers/109551082645727676

@elazar please come to Portugal. You will find easy your next employer
@Marcio Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to relocate at the moment. If I was, I imagine the language barrier might prove somewhat challenging. Eventually, I would definitely like to travel there, but sadly, I have to stay here for the moment.
@elazar we speak english. You wouldn't have a problem with the language.

Tech layoffs are on many folks' minds. There are currently none on the horizon where I work, but Indeed has a good "I've just been laid off, now what?"โ€ฆ

@elazar world wide Technology is in need of software engineers.I do not know where you are based. I know they have remote work. Best of luck to you.
@Eloise42 I'm in the US, Louisiana specifically. A number of large tech companies based here did large-scale layoffs recently, so a lot of people are looking. It's not a great time to be job hunting as a software engineer. Appreciate the well-wishes.
@elazar I sent your resume to World Wide Technology recruiters at [email protected]. I hope it helps. I am just a Logistics Supervisor that is about all I can do.
@Eloise42 I completely understand. I appreciate you reaching out and passing my information along; thank you. โค๏ธ
@elazar Sorry to hear that. Major suckage at anytime, especially during the holidays. :( I do not know if you live near one of our tech-hubs and/or would work for Big Banking, but JPMC is always looking for sharp people with experience. We hired almost 500 software engineers this year in Houston, TX. Look at https://careers.jpmorgan.com/global/en/home and see if anything looks good. Pay is pretty decent, nice benefits. Remote is an option, but not a sure thing. I am in the office two days a week normally.

@elazar I work for CommScope. We are looking for people with your assets. I canโ€™t guarantee anything, but check us out. DM me for details.
@VehementSack Received an invitation to connect on LI that I assume is from you and accepted. Also took a look at the remote US engineering roles on CommScope's website; didn't look like there were many. Is something like this what you had in mind for me? https://careers.commscope.com/job/sunnyvale/principal-cloud-engineer-remote/29808/32781205648

@elazar I'd love to chat with you about a tech lead job where I work. add me on LinkedIn.com/in/nsaccente
@nicky_james Thanks! Sent you an invite to connect, then located and saved the job listing I think you had in mind. Would love a chance to chat more!

@elazar Q: Are you open for #relocation and/or applying overseas?

Cuz there are like a metric ton of recruiters that I know that would try to beat each other to catch you first...

@kkarhan Unfortunately, I'm location-bound at the moment for personal reasons. In all likelihood, I'm expecting my next role will be remote, as most have been for about 14 years now.
@elazar Hey there, have a look at ServiceNow; there are some good opportunities there, also exclusively for remote workers https://careers.servicenow.com/careers/

@elazar If you want to work for a contractor at an agency in DC, you sound like me, and my team's short by one.
@elazar DC is a bit far from #NOLA tho.
@eyesquash I'm actually in Lafayette these days. Most of my positions for the last 14 years have been remote. If that's not a deal-breaker, I'd love to know more. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for reaching out!
@elazar it may be. We used to be in office FT and don't know what's next. I'll pass your res and see.

@Bishopjoey Already applied after hearing about the company from @lucasvieites but good to hear that his experiences aren't isolated. Thanks for your response! ๐Ÿ˜€
@elazar I sadly don't think we're hiring at the moment but I will check! I think this would be a good place for you! <3
@ieatkillerbees Thank you so much! โค๏ธ And no worries, I appreciate you checking regardless. I have interviews scheduled into the new year at the moment because most places are or have already closed up shop for the year, just in case any sooner promising prospects don't pan out. Until I have at least one offer, I'm assuming any other prospects could still fall through. Redundancy in this situation is a good thing.
@ieatkillerbees @maccath hooked me up with the link to this position, but I don't think I've heard anything back yet. https://phpc.social/@maccath/109528704446229149

@elazar @kboyd I know Auvik in Waterloo is hiring for devops...
@Taffer @kboyd I don't know if they hire in the US, but it looks like they mainly want .NET and Go (neither of which I have experience with) and C++ (which I haven't used since college about 16 years or so ago), so I'm not sure how good a fit I would be for them. Appreciate the lead, though. ๐Ÿ™‚
