π π π Really cool Cornell job in our new Brooks School of Public Policy -- will be relevant to many here (but is for tenured or just-about-to-be folks).
"Scholars who study questions related to technology and public policy, including cybersecurity, scientific innovation, AI, data science, financial technology, social media, ethical and equitable use of technology, global politics of regulating policy, and more."

Toot and boost! (ugh can't used to these terms)
Finally getting round to #academic #introductions
I've been studying different aspects of the #sociology of technology for too long. My PhD was an ethnographic study of the rise of mobile phone use by teenagers β a clue to how long it's been.
More recently, I've turned to the human labours behind AI β from data labelling to model building. I'm especially interested in structural inequities and reparativeAI.

I've been an admin and moderator for chaos.social for nearly five years now (π±). A good enough reason as any to reflect on the Good/Bad/Ugly aspects of community management.
If you're interested in an internship at Apple on the Human-Centered Machine Intelligence team, please check the link below for how to apply -- we have focus areas in Accessibility (Leah Findlater), Vis (@dom), Learning Sciences (@idontreallydo), UI Understanding (@jwnichls), and ML Developer Tools (@barik) β¦ it's an amazing place to work, we're a research team that collaborates closely with software engineering, design, and a bunch of other teams.
Happy Halloweeeeeen.
[iβm on door duty tonight]
So many good people and amazing looking instances on the mastodons. As ever, too little time, too much choice.
This is a neat tool to help filter instances to choose from:
