FOSS4G stands for Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial. It is the flagship global event of OSGeo. Organized by OSGeo and with more than 15 years of experience, this international anual gathering of location enthusiasts is the largest global gathering for geospatial software. FOSS4G brings together developers, users, decision-makers and observers from a broad spectrum of organizations and fields of operation. Through six days of workshops, presentations, discussions, and cooperation, FOSS4G participants create effective and relevant geospatial products, standards, and protocols. The 2021 edition was planned to take place in Buenos Aires (Argentina). Due to the pandemic it is online. It focuses on South America with the close collaboration of the GeoLibres Association in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
A newly released collection of maps show how much land in US cities is used as parking lots.
According to The Parking Reform Network, Wichita KS is 35% parking lot while Las Vegas, NV is 32% and San Bernadino, CA is a brain-melting 49% parking lot.
Imagine the possibilities if people decided to take back most of that land from empty parked cars and use it for housing and green space instead? 🌳 🚶♀️ 🚴 👨👩👦 🌲
Nearly one-third of downtown Salt Lake City is dedicated solely to car parking, according to data released by a nonprofit last week. And Salt Lake is far from alone. In Wichita, it’s 35%. In Las Vegas, it’s 32%. In San Bernardino, it’s even worse: 49% of the central city is composed of parking.
Over the last 4 years who have slowly built a movement of widespread community actions to improve the foundation of food systems and climate resilience.
