This is going to be the account for build soil work in progress

In the past, the patreon.com/buildsoil was mostly just a space to donate and the "content" was twitter and our actual work.

Now we are making videos and it costs time and money but you get early access and updates on the patreon (rewards system will be updated shortly)

if we get 500 people donating $10 a month, it makes it possible for this to get rolling.

even better for 150 people donating $20

and even single donations of $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, 1000 would make a difference.

Our stream/podcast is coming online slowly and we are giving away the last of our 18,000 chestnut tree growing and giveaway

The project is running out of funding; time for a fundraising push.

please consider donating
I'd love to start with raising $5000

he best ways to donate
patreon.com/buildsoil supports getting raw versions of our work and special streams. (takes a larger cut but many people prefer it)

any amount helps, repeating donations help set up certainty.

next steps are:
videos, educational content, lectures, podcast
These need funding to be sustained.

then from there:
guides, research, and test projects with more community support systems

and someday, post-fire regenerative response projects, and a research station.

I haven't asked much lately but times are tough, funding streams are low, and small (and large) donations make a big difference.

Here is a free taste of the lightly-edited show that we will be putting on and turning into a podcast:

Build Soil

Building my podcast/radio show on collective repair, I've been reflecting on my voice—through old tweets and radio clips. I've never liked my own voice, but slowly learning to really hear myself. Loved this moment on air:

Jordan Fink of Build Soil on Strategies for Community Organizing

This is part 2 of our interview with Jordan Fink of Build Soil, where they're working to plant a new generation of chestnut trees in the Portland area and around the world, as a crucial piece of societal infrastructure against climate disaster in the (near) future. But to achieve that, they've worked on building a grassroots organization. What kinds of effective strategies make that possible? (We will also get sidetracked on sustainable water technology and historic approaches to water systems that could – and in some cases do – work today.)

I’m grateful for what’s happened. I get to build real things in the world. I’m just struggling with this family crises.
So much of our success happened because of one person who really believed in me and donated and he did that because he saw so many people give small donations to support what I was trying to teach. I really just wish I could find that level of support again
This project is my life and the things I wanna do are the only things I put my energy into but I’m not in a place where I’m stable when real things like this happen. I would like to be able to take a week off and just do everything I can to take care of myself and my family

Im really struggling tonight with my dad’s heart failure and supporting my mom while she navigates this.

How do I get done everything I need to for life?

We saved a couple hundred trees

Handed out a few of them.

I have to get the next round of the project funded

Be less efficient, be more powerful

In order to do work, some energy has to be disordered

So the result of work will always be less total energy & matter backed into smaller area(s)

So nature organizes around CENTERS to combine work and share together

Our project is pretty basic at this point. We plant chestnuts and have learned enough lessons over the last few years that I feel comfortable, making video content to teach people how to do it, planting in their own backyards, forming groups learning how to make decisions together and distributing trees. This helps provide basic training in cooperative planning, and provides an important result a lasting perennial food system that can withstand quite a bit of climate change
