Working the people (as in #ChangeManagement as usual) is inhumane and authoritarian. Plus: it doesn't work: Because you can't just work people like dough.

Working the System (especially if done #together) is democratic, humanistic & it works. Working the System produces impact super-fast, actually: People are so intelligent, they adapt their behavior to existing contexts.

Forget the Kotter approach to change – here comes VFOT!

The Kotter approach, often referred to as Leading Change, was the best change management model of the 20th century. It looks pretty dated now.

Thanks to the DigitalOcean team, the Mastodon image on their marketplace has been updated to the latest stable version (3.5.3). Thanks Jes!

Some people think Mastodon is too weird to become popular:

I joined Twitter in 2008. We had to put a "d" in front of a tweet to convert it to a direct message and every other day you had some embarrassing private moments exposed because someone forgot about the “d”. Hashtags were just a community hack, introduced by Chris Messina to somehow tag content. Search? Hah, you wish! Tweets via SMS were supposed to be a thing. Oh, and the daily meet and greet with the failwhale. Totally not weird.

Hey, if you want to be "verified" on the fediverse as being _actually you_, you don't need some third party to verify you or to check some list.

Got a domain you own, that's obvs you?

Paste `<a rel="me" href="https://your.server/@your_username">Mastodon</a>`into the html on that domain, add that domain to your profile links, bam, verified at least as comprehensively as a lot of folks on birdsite.

If this seems hard, I will help you! You can verify yourself, promise!

(boosts for reach a-ok)

It's honestly disconcerting seeing accounts on here (celebrities) that have posts with 60+ replies and not a single reply of their own to anybody in that thread

This is exactly the kind of thing we want to avoid here. The asymettrical parasocial experience that is encouraged with such people

If you're an organisation that wants to participate on the fediverse, you really need to be running your own Mastodon instance.

Most of the Mastodon infrastructure right now is being run by individuals or small groups, for the community.

Trying to put your "official account" on community infrastructure is extremely rude.

should we create a mastodon instance for the socio-technical systems community?

Braindump thread on the IMHO next big steps for #Mastodon and #ActivityPub. Might become a blog post. All unfiltered thoughts.

Account Migration - Should be made even simpler, ideally a one step thing. Automate account creation and migration with a one time token. Say where you want to go to. Your instance creates a token, sends it to the other instance, it derives from that token, sends migration request back, both instances coordinate, done.

It is vital to the success of a feedback culture that people *do not* act on all feedback.
