Most notable has been the re-emergence of Ansaru, which separated from Boko Haram in 2012 and has since been allied with AQIM and the JNIM coalition. Ansaru’s area of operations has shifted from Kaduna State in 2020 to Kwara and Niger States over the past year, bringing its activities closer to the Benin border.
