@adventure_tense They may be locking this down to the point where you can't enter developer mode (for ROM installs) unless you're a registered developer.
Note that as of this year AOSP no longer targets real-world reference hardware, only theoretical "dummy" models. So Google is removing the idea that AOSP should be compatible with real-world devices.
If that's the case, then Google has undone every iota of good they've done for open platforms.
I think AOSP will eventually have to fork from Google Android, and take it into its own direction.
Google is starting their process to lock Android down and privatize it, so expect no Google Play sooner than later. That will hurt, especially if F-Droid shuts down.
But we're entering a new era, and we need to build up our own platform, and stop our reliance on Google. If AOSP isn't it, then we need to develop a "hardened" mobile LinuxOS and run Flatpaks!
