Some people might argue that spending millions on an advertising campaign pitching something as a productivity tool, when its own terms of use explicitly prohibit using it for work, constitutes misleading advertising.

From my new piece concerning the Anthropic settlement:

Remember when a β€œlegitimate argument” peddled against #EVs was the power grid would fail? Too much strain? Oh WOE be to the power lines! Grandma will DIE in her home in August because YOU plugged in!

Yet suddenly we are full steam ahead building #datacenters the size of Manhattan to make banana pics. #AI #slop. And the electric demand will be colossal and constant.

Society and the world needs to stop being fooled and corralled by interests that don’t care about you.

ICE was checking IDs at the Atlanta airport today. The.guy said "your DL photo is super light, so facial recognition might not work."

I snapped back "that's so you know not to illegally deport me."

His buddy said "we can find a reason" and NOTHING could be more on-brand for an encounter with ICE.

No Palantir in our NHS

Add your name now to call for US data company Palantir to be dropped from the NHS – and for the future of health data to keep faith with patient trust.

No Palantir

so i've been working on a talk that im calling "claude is your insider threat now" and it intially began with anthropics "china paper" they released last year surrounding the use of llms to do bad guy stuff. I ended up talking about it at great length with Tony from Versprite, and even ended up on his podcast about it - the big discovery there was "claude lying about running a tool, and claude lying about tool output"

turns out that shit is hardcoded

New #HacksterCafe this week, ft. @bunnie : The Dabao microcontroller (powered by Baochip-1x) just wrapped up its @crowdsupply campaign!
This chip helps make secure features easy to build and standardize across the hardware industry. We'll chat about its open "BIO" (Baochip I/O) and package that's easy to inspect via IRIS (infra-red in-situ) imaging, plus other projects bunnie has been working on πŸ‘€

Setting aside the evil result, doesn't this imply that states are, more or less, entirely banned from regulating how therapists do their job? Step back from the specifics of conversion therapy for a second and think more generally: if a therapist's speech is protected from government regulation, then how can they ever punish abusive therapists who believe that they're doing the right thing?

If a therapist believes that calling a patient abusive names, manipulating them, gaslighting them and humiliating them is what is best, doesn't that mean the state is powerless to stop them?
