Structural Neurobiology

To comprehend how matter creates life requires visualising the living cell in atomic detail. To this aim, we develop novel technologies that are based on electron diffraction of frozen, hydrated biological samples. We have demonstrated (using biological and organic nano-crystals) that electron diffraction data can in principle unlock high-resolution information way beyond what conventional electron microscopy can deliver, and that this also applies to other biological samples.

LEAPS Meets Life Sciences Conference

LEAPS is the League of European Accelerator-based Photon Sources, a strategic consortium initiated by the Directors of the Synchrotron Radiation and Free Electron Laser (FEL) user facilities in Europe. Its primary goal is to actively and constructively ensure and promote the quality and impact of the fundamental, applied and industrial research carried out at their respective facility to the greater benefit of European science and society. In this context LEAPS will organize 14-19 May, 2023...

Desmosomal connectomics of all somatic muscles in an annelid larva

Volume-EM reconstruction of a whole-body desmosomal connectome including all muscles and their desmosomal partners in a Platynereis larva provides a detailed view of the organisation of the entire locomotor system in an animal.

Admittedly, these days #mastodons have a very special place in our hearts😉 🥰, so this new research really speaks to us! The oldest #DNA ever recovered, from permafrost in Greenland, has revealed that the elephant-like creatures roamed northern #Greenland 2 million years ago. Now a barren polar desert, the area apparently used to be a lush landscape of trees & home to a diverse flora & fauna. 🤗 *Go mastodons, go!* 🐘 😉 https://nature.com/articles/d41586-022-04377-x

Hi #introduction:

In my lab we study the structure and function of neuronal circuits underlying information processing and cognition using light, electrons and X-rays. #DynamicalConnectomics
