Software "Engineer" by profession, pilot in my spare time.

Doing something with fruit. Opinions are my own.

@jamesdempsey as always I had an amazing time at live near WWDC! Is the “make something wonderful” song available somewhere? It was amazing and I don’t find it on Apple Music 😢
@th_in_gs I have $10 in my pocket. Is that enough for a down payment?
@th_in_gs congrats! Yeah I’m totally looking! I have… *checks wallet* uh… do you take a check? 😅
@Edent I am not talking about a Roku box. I’m talking about a Roku tv. And I would assume every tv running on Roku OS probably behaves the same.
@Edent I bought a Roku tv and during setup it asks for a WiFi and there’s simple no option to skip that step. At least none I could find and I definitely tried. A colleague says he sees his TV making attempts to connect to his WiFi. Don’t know the details or the brand there though. Basically I think if you don’t want your smart tv to connect to the internet you need to let it connect to your WiFi, then block its traffic. That’s not something most people know how to do.
@Edent I wish it was that simple. Some will only work after you connect them to the internet. Others literally try to find an open WiFi or anything they connect to and then claim they are offline and still send all your data.

Nothing quite angers me like using an app that recommends to me people that I “should” know.

Which means that person probably allowed the app access to their contacts.

Giving an app access to your contacts is like spreading a venereal disease. Now this app knows who I am connected to, and can probably figure out why and how. That’s more information than I wanted to give them.

Don’t give apps access to your contacts. It’s not just your privacy that’s at stake.

Sigh. If you have 2FA enabled in E*Trade you must enter your password and the TOPT code. But if you forget your password you can choose a new one with just a TOPT code and immediately login without a going through an email confirmation flow. 🙄

How many engineering orgs are adding "AI accelerated engineering" projects to their 2024 priorities, but not any projects/time dedicated to actually finishing their 200 half-completed migrations and addressing obvious developer experience paper cuts? I bet a lot of them.

But sure, throw another thing onto the pile. That'll help.

The worst thing about online learning is that everything has become a video. Every code tutorial. Every design tutorial. Nobody actually writes out a guide anymore.

It's just "hey guys welcome to my tutorial" and watching 10 minutes of content that mostly isn't relevant...
