I enjoy thoughtful discussions, and look for opportunities to learn a different perspective.

I tend to discuss: News, Tech, Philosophy, Law, Games, and Anime.

*UPDATE* after trying everything in the book, and nothing working, I took it to a professional and they confirmed my worst fear - motherboard short - they could try and solder but they also looked at the drive and it’s also fried. Repair outweigh the price of the laptop new. RIP Dell Inspiron 15

Alright #Linux gurus, I’m running Linux Mint 21.3 on a #Dell #Inspirion I left a website open, closed the laptop, plugged in, for about 4 hours. Came back open the laptop nothing, did a hard reset (held power button for 15 seconds) and nothing. Is the battery cooked or am I missing something?

@frenzybiscuit Nope, I the battery light briefly come on and then nothing. But I’ve also seen that apparently this is a common problem for Dells β€” getting stuck in sleep mode essentially.
@matthew That was my next thought, a power drain and then try again β€” I’m hoping the same, although I’ve heard that sometimes this happens due a Bios issue, but I can’t confirm anything or review the log without power

@bob The silver lining is that some Republicans are also concerned with this funding cut. So there is some hope that the Senate will veto the bill, but I would absolutely reach out to your Senators to make sure your voice is heard.
@Doreen32128 It's worrisome when the government starts eyeing cutting sources of information in the name of financial responsibility. They really need to do better, or better yet - we need to vote better.

I’m seriously alarmed by Trump’s push to cut funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which puts NPR and PBS in real danger. Public broadcasting isn’t just nice to have; it’s a necessity for reliable news, education, and emergency information. Losing this vital resource would be a huge blow to our communities and democracy.
