Alright #Linux gurus, I’m running Linux Mint 21.3 on a #Dell #Inspirion I left a website open, closed the laptop, plugged in, for about 4 hours. Came back open the laptop nothing, did a hard reset (held power button for 15 seconds) and nothing. Is the battery cooked or am I missing something?

#LinuxMint

*UPDATE* after trying everything in the book, and nothing working, I took it to a professional and they confirmed my worst fear - motherboard short - they could try and solder but they also looked at the drive and it’s also fried. Repair outweigh the price of the laptop new. RIP Dell Inspiron 15

@WorMP3 If its plugged in it should turn on regardless of battery status. So, um.. yeah.

Somethings cooked alright, if absolutely nothing is on (no lights, nada?)

@frenzybiscuit Nope, I the battery light briefly come on and then nothing. But I’ve also seen that apparently this is a common problem for Dells β€” getting stuck in sleep mode essentially.
Sounds like you are on the right track. If you can find a guide for your Dell Inspiron model on youtube, that can sometimes help.

With it getting stuck in that state, sometimes both the regular battery and the CMOS battery need to be removed to force the BIOS to reset and check itself.
For a Dell, you may have to unplug the battery, hold down the power button, plug in without the battery connected and attempt to start after that.

It is probably a hardware issue and not anything to do with Linux

@matthew That was my next thought, a power drain and then try again β€” I’m hoping the same, although I’ve heard that sometimes this happens due a Bios issue, but I can’t confirm anything or review the log without power
