*UPDATE* after trying everything in the book, and nothing working, I took it to a professional and they confirmed my worst fear - motherboard short - they could try and solder but they also looked at the drive and it’s also fried. Repair outweigh the price of the laptop new. RIP Dell Inspiron 15

Alright #Linux gurus, I’m running Linux Mint 21.3 on a #Dell #Inspirion I left a website open, closed the laptop, plugged in, for about 4 hours. Came back open the laptop nothing, did a hard reset (held power button for 15 seconds) and nothing. Is the battery cooked or am I missing something?

I’m seriously alarmed by Trump’s push to cut funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which puts NPR and PBS in real danger. I’m following the Israel-Iran conflict closely, and based on the latest expert projections, WWIII isn’t likely. Russia is tied up in Ukraine and won’t step in for Iran. The ceasefire is fragile but holding, and US-brokered talks are coming up. There’s still a risk of escalation, but a global war doesn’t seem to be on the horizon.

The family deserves justice. Georgia law doesn’t require keeping a brain-dead woman on life support. The hospital denied the family’s right to make this deeply personal decision. They should sue to defend their autonomy and hold the hospital accountable.

Baby delivered from brain-dead woman on life support in Georgia

The baby of a Georgia woman who was declared brain dead and has been on life support for months has been delivered. Atlanta TV station WXIA reported Monday night that 31-year-old Adriana Smith’s mother says the baby was born prematurely by an emergency cesarean section Friday and is expected to survive. The baby was named Chance. He weighs about 1 pound and 13 ounces and is in the neonatal intensive care unit. April Newkirk says her daughter would be taken off of life support Tuesday. Smith’s family had said doctors told them they could not remove the devices keeping her breathing because of an abortion ban but the attorney general later said the law did not apply.

It’s a damn shame how far things have fallen with Iran. No one liked the JCPOA when Obama pushed it through, but it did keep Iran’s nuclear program in check. The U.S. withdrew for no clear reason, and now Israel’s attack—unsupported by U.S. intel or the IAEA—is dragging us toward another Middle East war at the urging of regional allies.
