@lproven An interesting read as always. Thanks
@ausfestivus it's like an OS inside an OS or something

This is why digital sovereignty matters.

I have relatives who have no clue what accounts they own or use.

I live in a small island nation where all the local shops are collapsing because all the inhabitants order from Amazon having no idea why that's bad.

People don't know what's at stake.

A century or so ago, the USA had a policy of isolation and not getting involved in other countries' affairs.

We need tech to get back there, ASAP.

FOSS showed that offering them cheaper tools isn't enough. Better tools aren't enough either. But independence just might be.

Indeed. Exactly the reason that Nominet have launched their new grant giving fund initiative

@lproven @theregister Saying that Ubuntu starting 21 years ago has made me feel quite old today.... 😂
A good piece as always Liam
@nixCraft I remember giving this a spin off a magazine cover disc - quick, easy, clean and intuitive :)

@SecurityWriter @Viss @mttaggart
In the UK can use licence exempt power limited options e.g. 434, 869 and 2.4GHz
I did a bit of a high altitude balloon project back in the day. Check for ideas

@SecurityWriter Indeed, totally agree. Multiple times we did the sums, showed the performance differences - yet the exec wanted cloud regardless of being shown because of the hype

I don’t have a strong view on the culture war over working from home.

I do however think that the stuff being pushed (been asked about it by several journalists) that wfh played a role in the M&S cyber attack & that wfh orgs are more vulnerable than others is unsupported by any evidence at all

@nixCraft I agree and I think there is momentum starting for others to do similar
