Mortem non timeo.
Mors me metuit.
I interviewed for a job at an insurance company and interviewer asked "do you drive yourself" I answered yes, I always drive towards my goals. She said no I mean *steering wheel gesture* - 15 years ago and haunts me to this very day

After 16 months of being bedridden, I'm finally recovering, but this month has been the perfect storm of broke & bills. I'm trying to keep 6 people housed and fed, so any money you can spare would be greatly appreciated!

I’m a big fan of the videos that Jason Slaughter creates for @notjustbikes

And I’ve been a Nebula subscriber since 2024 explicitly to watch his videos there (as well as videos by others).

His most recent video made me angry, made me laugh out loud, and otherwise moved me as he enumerates the many ways that cars culture harms us all. The video will show up on his YouTube channel soon, but I want to explicitly support Jason and Nebula here.

Not Just Bikes — Every Reason to Hate Cars

"While some people benefit from automobility, nearly everyone—whether or not they drive—is harmed by it." This video is a summary of all the ways that cars harm cities, the environment, and people’s lives.

Hivemind! Please help.
going to Cardiff for a few days with the 4 of us, where's good to park, needs to be not multi-story as it'll not take the van. from what I've seen there's a few park and ride/train options but the tickets seem really expensive.

When I read this kind of thing, it makes me so thankful for a bunch of #Rust features:
1. The Editions system
2. Macros allowing syntax changes to be libraries
3. A language that wasn't afraid to be complex at the start, so it didnt need to be complicated later

I have often ragged on Hoare's "Billion Dollar Mistake" of nulls, but this is sad news. RIP.

Tony Hoare (1934-2026)

Turing Award winner and former Oxford professor  Tony Hoare passed away last Thursday at the age of 92. Hoare is famous for quicksort, ALGO...

I once finished fourth at the Commonwealth Games. I was fucking proud of what I did but the reaction of friends has always been either pity or mocking for missing out on a medal. What's your greatest life achievement Dave? Middle management at B&Q?
