A really important skill for trainees to learn is to be a “closer” of a project-that is to take it over the finish line for publication. This means doing the experiments, getting the figures/text ready for submission and being prepared to do review corrections 😀
In collaboration with universities across the globe, a researcher at Charlotte may have determined why some people never got COVID-19. What they discovered and how it could improve treatments of the virus ➡️ bit.ly/CLT-GEN
Excited to share our latest Forum article in Trends in Biochemical Sciences “Understanding chaperone specificity: evidence for a ‘client code’” https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0968000423001329?dgcid=author
We now have an official departmental page for the Charlotte Group for Proteostasis Research (biology.charlotte.edu/research/prote…)! Keep an eye out for possible opportunities to join us in the future 😀 #proteostasis #chaperones @UNCCBiology
Over the last few years, I have served on a committee of the #NationalAcademies (chaired by @TammyKolda) to produce some posters and other related media to showcase twenty-first century #mathematics and its applications in the real world, suitable for display in classrooms or math departments. Our posters (together with some associated commentary, webinars on related topics, and even a whimsical "comic") are now available for download at https://nap.nationalacademies.org/resource/other/deps/illustrating-math/interactive/ .

MSc student Nina's first paper is out. Almost every species of bat in a complex tropical artificial "cave" community found from #eDNA in the air with @JELittlefair We also find surprising ways DNA is transferred even on gear! Stand by for more... https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/edn3.385
@generegulation Yes but I am talking about actually reviewing a manuscript
Given the rise of AI tools like GPT, do you think we will ever see journals use AI to assist in the review of scientific papers?

Check out this scatterplot of health spending per capita (x axis) & life expectancy (y axis) in OECD countries (lines = averages).

The United States sits alone in the bottom right quadrant due to its much higher spending and below-average life expectancy.
