Twitter has become an essential reporting tool for me to connect with sources, find leads and gather information. Like the telephone or google, it would be hard to replace if it goes away, and I hope it survives.
I am enjoying Mastodon, but it doesn't fill some of those gaps by design.

Hi all -- I have a question about what happens to one's followers if you change instances.
I've read that the followers will move with you -- but only if your new server "talks" to to their server. So -- if your new server is not very widely federated, you could be disconnected from followers? Or am I getting this wrong

Solidarity with the Harper Collins Union

RT @[email protected]

Today, November 10, 2022, the HarperCollins union is going on an indefinite strike. That means all work has come to a standstill and we will be outside the HarperCollins office at 195 Broadway picketing. For days, possibly weeks.

Does anyone know of a unions-centric Mastodon instance? Please boost for reach.

Really overwhelmed by all the donations so far. The predicted costs for this month are covered, and there's some left to expand the capacity for mastodon.world

What's left over at the end of the month is saved for next months.
Might we have any left over after that, I'll donate that to open-source projects.

But first let''s invest in server capacity (and storage)

The preferred donation platform is OpenCollective https://opencollective.com/mastodonworld
(Patreon has less options)

Mastodon.world - Open Collective

Providing Fediverse instances to be used by anyone. (Mastodon, Lemmy, Calckey/Firefish etc)

@MediaLawProf @jeff @jkosseff @design_law Right, I'd think a 230 repeal would lead to a lot more servers. News orgs hosting and only letting their own employees on because they have ways to control speech beyond forum rules. Community size would matter too. Could reasonably moderate a community of 10-20, not so much one of 10,000.

Good to see you here!

Great to be part of this instance. I'm Simon - leading communications for the UK's media (and soon online safety) regulator. We cover broadcasting, telecoms, the postal sector and manage the UK's spectrum allocations. Next year we'll take on regulation of online platforms, under the Online Safety Bill. It's a cool remit! #introductions
@jeff Thanks Jeff.

As as nonprofit news publisher, wondering if there's anyone from #INN on here #InstituteforNonprofitNews

Let me know!
