An urban homesteader in central USA. I like to post pictures of my garden and talk about anything gardening, cooking, or animal related.

Pictures of knitting projects and books that I'm reading may also be posted.

I harvested two gallons of red potatoes this summer. I really did not expect them to grow that big, that fast!

*Gasp* Witness a rare hoard of mammoth rogue zucchinis emerging from their hatching patch in search of their Mediterranean homelands so far, far away.

Go valiantly on your mission you noble beasts! Fear not the ratatouille, Nor the roasting pan, for you are destined for greatness!

(After a day of doing admin stuff, I thought I'd do a bit of gardening... creative gardening... )

The garden is proving bountiful this summer! I've got tomatoes, beans, and cabbage all growing very prettily.

I've found fruit and herb infused water to be a good replacement for sugary kool-aid style drinks. If you want a hint of taste? Steep chosen ingredients for 4 hours. Strong taste? 6-8 hours.

My favorite infusion flavors:
-------------------------------------
Orange and lemon
Lemon and lime
Basil and strawberries
Sage

It's honeysuckle season in Oklahoma! This bunch actually came with my house, it didn't flower much last year bc I cut it back to the ground. It has tons of flowers this year

Isn't it great when you come upon an unexpected plant. Aquilegia vulgaris L. subsp. nevadensis is an endemic species, classified as vulnerable and is on the Red List of the Vascular Flora of Andalucia. I only know of a couple of areas where this plant grows, usually see it in early June, but not this year it's out and flowering already I expect due to the dry winter and spring we have had.

I'm having a hard time growing radishes. They come up all leaves and no roots. On the bright side, the leaves taste really good sauteed and put over grits.

I just started "Tastes Like War" yesterday and now I'm 1/3 of the way through this memoir and trying not to cry!
