VICTORY! Ring has announced it will no longer facilitate warrantless police requests for footage to Ring’s users. This comes after years of sustained pressure from EFF and other civil liberties and privacy advocates. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/01/ring-announces-it-will-no-longer-facilitate-police-requests-footage-users
Victory! Ring Announces It Will No Longer Facilitate Police Requests for Footage from Users

New study gave $7,500 to 50 unhoused people.

Guess what?

"They did not spend more money on alcohol or drugs, contrary to what people believe, and instead they spent the money on rent, food, housing, transit, furniture, a used car, clothes. It's entirely the opposite of what people think they're going to do with the money."

Congrats to my UBC colleague Jiaying Zhao on this study.

Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut are 3 of the most densely populated US States. What kind of future do we want for our communities? Unsustainable monoculture lawns, hot paved surfaces, or shaded walkable neighborhoods with fruit trees and places to gather? The choice seems simple to us.
