I'm not sure what train this is.

finland was planning to move its election platform to amazon web services.

after all the threats from the US and concern about how it will use tech dependence against europe, that plan is on ice.

Sam Altman: “We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter.”

So, replace "intelligence" with "compute" and you have big tech's vision for us. Computational power metered like a utility.

Interesting to hear Altman say this when OpenAI isn't really a data center hyperascaler. They're a software company. He buys his compute from papa Microslop.

Meanwhile, in privacy and tech circles: This anti-Torment Nexus conference is proudly sponsored by Torment Nexus, Inc.

Resident Evik Requiem is excellent so far, it also got me wanting to play REmake 2.

Made a new thing. Driftwood - an AppImage manager for Linux. Browse 2,000+ apps, one-click install, updates, vulnerability scanning, and desktop menu integration. No root, no accounts, no telemetry.

Built with Rust and GTK 4, runs in userspace, ships as an AppImage itself. Free, CC0 public domain, WCAG 2.2 AAA accessible.

If you use AppImages and want something nicer than the terminal for managing them, give it a look.
