Great activity in the hives today! Plenty to forage in the neighborhood - dandelion, apple, pear, chestnut and rapeseed among much else blooming at the moment. Will probably need to add another super to both hives in a week or so.
I'm glad the gardening and horticulture crowd have a sense of humor. Or maybe it's just my juvenile sense of humor but I laughed when I saw this.
I'm off to the hardware store. Farmer Melissa notice her raspberry bushes had been chewed on. I need a fence to keep out Peter Rabbit and his friends but also looks decent because this is our front yard.
Then it's off to my bee yard for inspections and probably expansion.

It has rained for 12 hours straight today and still raining. I'm so tired of the fucking rain. I've got hive inspections tomorrow so it needs to knock it off.

I bought a package of beetle jails to try and intercept the few small hive beetles I have running around in my hives. The bees seem to be managing them well on their own but the jails will give them somewhere to chase them in to. As a new beekeeper it really bugs me having well, extra bugs in my hives. Apparently it's almost unavoidable so I'm trying to keep my OCD in check.
I'm using banana peels soaked in apple cider vinegar as bait. The beetles like funk.
Here's a screenshot from the new bee yard camera. I probably won't keep it here permanently but it's nice to be able to check on them periodically now.
With that I've completed my weekend chores.
