Travis from πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ he/him/his

I've been in to almost everything at some point thanks to my ADHD - from woodworking to digital art to archery to rock climbing to cooking.

I like to read Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Urban Fantasy, and follow many writers, but haven't gotten the urge to actually write myself.

Union Strong. Strong feelings about human rights and the bigots who hate them.

Over a decade sober.

Doing foundational work for several small business I hope to begin operating starting in 2026

Happy birthday to me!

This was my first scheduled toot, set on Nov 19, 2022. Playing with new (to me) features is fun!

This makes me angry - Sobeys and associated brands force food banks to spend money donated at their tills at their stores.

Sobeys restricts food bank donation spending to its stores, defends policy

While chains like Save-on-Foods, Walmart and Whole Foods give donated money directly to food banks to use how they best see fit, CityNews has learned Sobeys puts restrictions on the cash its customers donate, requiring food banks to buy through its channels.

Hey #techhub,

I have updated the https://hub.techhub.social page, we are now fully financed (donations > costs) at current costs #finance.
I have removed the #donation link, for now, but as costs rise I will eventually put it back.
Techhub is not a business and I do not want to make money out of it. Everyone involved is doing it on a #volunteer basis.

That brings me to the second update on the page, I have added a "Help wanted" section. We need moderators (focusing on diversity), a webmaster and a graphic artist. I added a google form to submit your application.
#helpwanted

This post will also be linked in the announcements.

Thank you,

The idea of drinking 8 glasses of water a day is entirely arbitrary. Your individual water needs are based on a variety of factors including your weight, fitness level and the weather.

And yes – there is definitely such a thing as being too hydrated.

Do you really need to drink 8 glasses of water a day? An exercise scientist explains why your kidneys say β€˜no’

If kidneys could talk, they’d tell you not to overdo the water rule you hear all the time. But since they can’t talk, they do send signals to your body that enough is enough.

… we are reinstituting @UMassBoston’s indoor mask requirement, effective Monday, January 9.

@CDCgov advises indoor masking amid rising COVID rates

I am currently 18 hrs 26 mins 18 secs of light-travel time from Earth (2023:007:000000:2L)

Can you all just pretend I said something witty here and just go ahead and favorite and boost this?

It'll save me a lot of work.

Thanks. πŸ˜‰

@vts On one hand you are right. We will keep doing our work no matter how many people read or hear what we say. This is our mission of preserving memory.

On the other hand we do need to reach as many people as possible. This is our mission of education. That is why we will keep asking for your support.

10 Image #CaptionTips from a transcriptionist:

1. Any words are better than nothing.
2. You don't need to say it's "a picture of…" screen readers will already say it's an image.
3. Start with the framing or format (i.e. close up, landscape, meme, text).
4. Think about the reason you're posting the pic and describe that first, add background details if you have time.
5. Pretend you're talking to someone on the phone and want to tell them about this cool thing you're looking at.
6. Transcribe any and all text in the image, even if it's the only thing you do.
7. If you've described the image in your post, you don't need to copy and paste it again in the caption. But again, don't leave it blank, just put something like "as described."
8. You can add small subjective notes, but don't give too much interpretation of the image in your own opinion.
9. Caption jokes are fun, as long as they still describe the image objectively.
10. Use punctuation, and capitalize words properly. A lot of us have interacted with this tech when calling customer service or talking to Siri, so keep in mind that you're writing for a computer to read, and it needs all the help it can get.
