My favorite repeat photography location ever has just been updated: @Geotripper has spent 21 years visiting the place where a road crosses the creeping segment of the San Andreas Fault, and (between resurfacings) the consequences of paving over a plate boundary become increasingly visible.

Lithospheric drips (a relatively cold and dense mass of lithosphere that sinks vertically into the upper mantle) have been identified using geophysical methods in the Great Basin and now in northern Borneo. The Borneo study published in Nature was accompanied by this startling artistās depiction of a lithospheric drip.
