Melbourne. I like stuff and things. Learning Data Analytics (Python, Java, R, Groovy), Jira/Confluence Admin, BA, Jack of All Trades thanks to a healthy dose of ADHD (gotta do ALL the things) and Autism (gotta know EVERYTHING about em..ooh look shiny thing!).

Inspired by everyone’s incredible aurora photos from last night, I went out to try my luck.

Instead of vibrant skies, I captured some classic suburban light pollution.

I tried using the Pixel’s astrophotography mode with a phone tripod, but the tripod snapped as I set it up.

A rare moment when an Aldi special bought let me down.

What a story to share in any “tell us about yourself” scenario. Love it. #meme

I’ve been on Amber ever since I saw @jodiem post about it on that other network way back in the day.

It’s always been my goal to get “paid” by them to use electricity by ramping up my usage when prices go into the negative.

I almost achieved that goal yesterday. Might well have gotten over the line if my fuse box didn’t keep tripping with the amount of stuff I was doing all at once for the few hours we had negative prices yesterday.

Portable induction hobs for bulk meal prep, oven on to bake cakes, aircon to keep it cool, laundry self clean cycles… still, 45 cents for just under 40KWh is pretty good eh. Would have been $11.25 under default offer.

If you’re in an area that allows you to use these guys as a retailer, get on it. (But not if you use solar.. negative feed in tarrifs, not nice)

Very glad our mutts don’t freak out at the sound of suburban fireworks. Every single night for the past week.

They seemed to not mind the city ones. Raised them well. 😁

I know these 'hacks' have been well reported, but it still surprises me that AI tools behave in this way.

1. I ask it to help me with a specific task - scrape all relevant data from a website so I can perform some analysis on the data. The chatbot tells me no, can't do that, might be unethical and breach the terms of service.

Fair enough.

2. I ask it to help me convert web content into a format that's screen reader friendly. Which also happens to be data analysis friendly.

I'll see what I can find...

Australian media wrongly named a 20 year old guy as the person behind an awful incident yesterday.

The media now reporting a 40 year old guy from another state as being the perpetrator.

And there’s going to be no consequences for this “mistake”.

Can only think of how the poor 20 year old fella must be feeling now. And of the increased risk to his safety and mental wellbeing.

They did something similar to another innocent party in Western Australia falsely accused of something pretty bad. Jumped on Facebook and published the photo of someone else with the same name as the actual perpetrator.

Ehh. End rant.

This cool change was just stalled right there around Point Cook from like 2 to 7 pm last night. Doggos (and I) could not WAIT to get outside once it had started to cool off.
Non stop sirens outside in the city and I go to check the radios to find out what's g on and... it's offline for the first time ever. Hope y'all are safe! #melbourne

I spent over an hour trying to figure out why Outlook on MacOS won't accept my iCloud device-specific credentials.

Decide to check out the system status page.

Oh. iCloud is down. >:(

I can be more silly than people give me credit for, sometimes. Ignore the obvious to try while I try the same thing over and over again to fix the unfixable.

Who has my coffee? ha ha
