If I was to point a custom #domain at a major #Mastodon host, let's say MyMastoDomain.com pointing at Mastodon.social, could I refer to an account created on Mastodon.social via MyMastoDomain.com?

e.g. users subscribing to @[email protected] were really subscribing to @[email protected]?

Well, that's interesting (or maybe not, depending on your viewpoint). I thought #Diaspora was part of the #Fediverse but it seems I can't find Diaspora users in #Mastodon to subscribe to their content.

Guess I misunderstood something!

So, as an experiment, to get some idea of what to expect show up in my feed, I just subscribed to a user on a server hosting #Funkwhale.

Nothing yet, but a potential flaw has just occured to me: their new tracks are gonna fly by in "Twitter time!

Don't think that's too good!

Now, if only your #ISP provided you with a #Mastodon account in much the same way they provide you with an #email account. That would break the monopolies on social for good.

So, if I'm understanding this right, I should be able to write an #ActivityPub tool for my website, which allows me to represent a long-form article in its entirety, and then anything on the #Fediverse should then be able to subscribe directly to the website and have those articles appear in the subscribers feed?

How would #Mastodon actually handle a long-form article?

A little experiment!

After 11 years I've managed to clock up a fairly paltry 579 "Tweets".

On my 18th day on the Mastodon platform, I've seemingly just posted my 100th "Toot".

The vibe, I guess, is just so much more conducive to me giving a crap!

(This is 101)

Fat thumbs and a cracked phone screen are not conducive to writing a post devoid of mistakes. Dag nabbit.

I don't get the preference to register a .social domain if you're a big organisation. It doesn't guarantee a genuine association with the organization that the user presumes to have registered it as well as if the organisation had used a subdomain on the main domain already associated with them. E.g. the W3C has w3.org and w3c.social. Using social.w3.org would imply a greater degree of authenticity to me.

And it seems to be official. Of the 7 podcasts I am now subscribed to via the Spreaker platform, 7 are denied to me.
