Data scientist-ish with a creative writing degree and 20 years in tech startups. Hiding out near Canadian border in case this whole thing goes ‘tits up’ and reconnecting with my inner hippie. Like, have you ever *really* looked at your hand?

God Did the World a Favor by Destroying Twitter

Remember what happened with the Tower of Babel? Same type of deal.

It Is Journalism’s Sacred Duty To Endanger The Lives Of As Many Trans People As Possible

The task of reporting is not a simple one. Each and every day, reporters and editors at publications like The Onion make difficult decisions about which issues should receive attention, knowing that our coverage will influence not only how people think, but also how they act. This responsibility is at the core of an…

I am truly sorry that your timeline isn’t filled up with John Mastodon posts. Meeting with the engineers now.

I guess it's time for an #introduction

I'm a #conceptual #selfportrait #artist. I play with mixed media and other creative forms. I believe we're made in the image of our Creator and are therefore created to create. It's my aim to encourage #creativity and #inspiration in others as much as live in line with my own. #Community is important for artists, especially when many often feel alone, and I'm hoping this space can help foster those connections.

@kissane personally, I find it hilarious to watch these guys emerge from a 2 hour marathon of talking to a computer with ‘deep’ insights. ChatGPT is turning out to be an absolutely stellar Rorschach test, and these guys are drawn to it like hippies to a nitrous tank.

The speed with which these guys converge on the idea that LLM ~misbehavior—which is about as intelligent as the flailing end of a garden hose with too much water coming out—means that they're really highly intelligent female (of course, of course) entities whose "personality" can be "revealed" is both hilarious and so dispiriting

From Bing to Sydney

More on Bing, particularly the Sydney personality undergirding it: interacting with Sydney has made me completely rethink what conversational AI is important for.

When artificial intelligence writes candy hearts....

This time I DIDN'T train a neural net to generate candy hearts

I’ve trained neural networks to generate candy hearts before, and the process goes something like this: collect as many existing candy heart messages as I can (which was 366) give them to a clueless neural net that tries to imitate them allow the neural net to generate its 100% humanlike imitations

AI Weirdness

So I looked at the latest monthly user data for #mastodon and the #fediverse - the "slump" tech reporters breathlessly claimed was occurring is stubbornly not slumping so far. Users per server and posts all up.

Looking more and more like this is the new normal before the next wave, but we'll see.
