The painful truth.

Stop using the fascists’ language. Using their words enables them and normalizes the atrocities.

They have branded the concentration camp “Alligator Alcatraz” so DO NOT CALL IT THAT. I choose to call it #AligatorAuschwitz.

Not ICE: stormtroopers or secret police
Not DoJ: Gestapo

They’re not “illegal” aliens they are merely undocumented.

Every word they choose is done deliberately. Do not comply.

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in a one-room country gravy log cabin in Kentucky. His childhood was marked by hardship, including the death of his mother when he was nine, and he had limited formal education, but he was encouraged to read and learn by his family.

If you think ICE is bad now, just wait till they hire 10,000 more agents and open more concentration camps.
Proposing anything that feels Canadian or European—such as free healthcare and affordable housing—is “communist” here in the U.S.

@georgetakei it's kind of funny.

In Denmark, in our 4 largest cities at least, and some of the smaller ones, if you don't know your way about it can be a bit of an adventure to drive into the center. Because they tend to be more suited to walking and cycling than driving. And some streets are entirely closed off to anything but cycles, walkers and busses

@rasmus91
That's what I was thing: A Picture form Denmark or maybe Flensborg (Germany).

Oh no, it's Montreal.

@georgetakei

@georgetakei I'm all for communism of some kinds. For example, take all the oil in the country that belongs to no one (which is all the oil), sell it to the highest bidder and distribute the revenue to all citizens. Who wouldn't want free money?

Socialism is even better. Build roads and let everyone drive on them for free. Send along a truck every week to pick up all the crap you don't want. Put all your actual poop into a pipe that flows to the city. Have another pipe that gives you safe drinking water.

These are good things that make our lives better / easier.

@human3500

Me!

What good is all that free money if there is no more living space?

You can't eat money

@georgetakei

@maexchen1 We're going to run out of food before we run out of land. We're killing off the things we need to survive. Communism, dictatorship, democracy - it won't matter. @georgetakei
@georgetakei That's why small children in the US get these monstrosities for their birthdays instead of bicycles:
@georgetakei Americans need to get out more. See how the world lives. Then they might come back and demand something better of their employers and their government. Then they might recognise that socialism and communism are very different things.
@georgetakei I might be beginning to understand how USAmericans ended up in the misery the voted for. They seem utterly unhinged and completely mind numbed.
@georgetakei this is mainly because the USA mix up socialism with communism. And that only because one of the USSR letters stands for socialism, but they had so much socialism as the DRC or DPRK have democracy.
What Canada and Europe do is socialism, not communism.

@gunstick @georgetakei And actually, most in Europe would be confused if you call their ordoliberal economies socialistic...

We have different ideas of socialism. 🤣

@urwumpe @georgetakei well we are here (europe) so socialistic that we have something called social security. That's where the cheap or free healthcare comes from.
Socialism has an actual definition. I have not checked if the wikipedia entry on socialism is different in the US compared to the rest of the world.
@gunstick @georgetakei Well actually socialism is, contrary to communism, a very flexible term. And most of Europe still can't fit into the term, since we don't have social ownership of the means of production. Most aren't even social-democratic countries - despite unions, worker councils, social security, universal health care or affordable universities.
@urwumpe @georgetakei it is very interesting to compare the english version of wikipedia to the german or french one. Notably the prominent mention of social ownership is not the main point in the DE and FR versions.

@gunstick @georgetakei that already a special "scientific socialism" is defined should be a warning sign, that many flows of socialism are harder to categorize. 🤣

And yes, the German Wikipedia pretty much writes about all that is historically called socialism, without having "the" definition of socialism. (And mentions already 260 definitions in 1920)

@georgetakei We could use more walkable streets here in Calgary; More comprehensive public transit, too. Don't fret though: There are many Americans I know of who want social healthcare.

Not to mention many of those arch-conservative dickheads don't know the difference between socialism & communism. Canadians get taught that in high school. :3

@georgetakei To be fair: Europe has become worse over the decades, inter alia due to US influence … but we also have home-grown conservatism, neoliberalism, racism, … All the more astonishing that our slightly less evil variant of capitalism still looks on the one hand so much better than the US and on the other hand is still considered “socialism” to your very right wing.

@georgetakei always the same pattern.

step 1: baselessly declare own country as not merely superior, but the best country, period.
step 2: get exposed to something a different country does better.
step 3: said country can’t be doing that better because nothing better than own country is possible.
step 4: come up with nonsense to make facts fit your narrative of reality. ‘our tax dollars paid for this’, ‘this is [enemy concept]’, ‘this means [thing it doesn’t mean]’, etc.

@georgetakei One of these days the US is gonna go full-on Stalinist just because people too young to remember the real thing will figure if those a-holes are against communism it can’t be all bad.
@georgetakei and some say Europe's "communism" is breaking Europe. I've been hearing that Europe is broken since I arrived here, 8 years ago. Every time I go to a cafe and I see a small note on the door saying "We are closed for holidays until..." I remember how broken Europe is. This is just another piece of propaganda they sell around the world.
@georgetakei while selling out to moscow is not
@georgetakei could it be that a lot of the people in the U.S. don't really know what communism is / means? 🤔
