Chamorro's husband had been a leader in the opposition to the Somoza regime, and was murdered in 1978. Chamorro took over his work and was alongside revolutionary leader Daniel Ortega when the Sandinista took control of the county. She then became critical of Ortega's rule.

I’ve Pet That CatMeet Lola! Her caregiver says Lola is a little weird. She demands head rubs by standing on her hind legs like a meerkat. She can stay like that for 10 minutes! She meows loudly and often. One of her favorite things to do is hide. She can’t figure out how people keep finding her.
