I have been really busy revising over the past 3 months. I took a break to really focus and added huge chunks to many of the stories for a 2nd collection of short fiction, worked out a ms. for my 4th collection of poetry, and I am 1/2 way through revising my novel once again. Now I am back to working as my brother's Agent again and I'll work on my own things more slowly. #writingcommunity #fiction #poetry #bookstodon
I've just logged on here for the first time since early May (I think) and found there were 7 or 8 people asking to follow me. I am not someone who feels I have the energy to devote to creating a long list of followers here. I'd rather be writing, revising, editing, or (yuk) submitting. That's where I spend most of my time away from Facebook. #bookstodon #writer
The more I work on my novel, the more I understand. The problem? Comparing my work to other novels. Their writing is laborious in delivering detail, or doesn't create believable characters. The subject is something I'm familiar with & they have a high school understanding. Is the real problem that publishers take work from authors with strong followings instead of quality writing? I can't worry about any of this. I just have to write what I write. #writers
I have been off-line for a while & busy focusing on a rewrite of my novel manuscript after a friend made some comments upon reading it. The impression she had of a major character was so negative I had to soften his image through interaction with the protagonist or she would look like a fool. It is interesting to get an impression from readers of your work about what you mean to portray in your stories. #bookstodon@a.gup.pe #writingcommunity #fiction
I have decided to focus on my writing rather than talking about my writing. A site like this seems to demand more talk than work.

Sometimes I wonder how classic writers would use social media.
Which author would choose what platform?

I imagine Charles Dickens would have been a natural blog writer. Edgar Allan Poe might have been drawn to Facebook and Shakespeare to YouTube. I could see the whole Bronte family sharing an account on Instagram. 😀

Where would your favourite classic authors go, and what would they post?

I'd love to read your ideas.

When I first joined Mastodon I was enthused. The smaller number of people actually led me to more conversations about #writing than I had on FB (I never really did Twitter). But as the numbers grew, so did the conversations about myriad things & I am not someone who wants to spend hours #reading here. Even skimming doesn't find me what I want, so I have been visiting less & less. I think that trend will only continue for me. #writingcommunity #amwriting #editing @bookstodon
@wendyparciak That is interesting. I very much doubt that I will change my approach though.
I'm a pantser, & always knew I couldn't plan ahead. I just realized something I wasn't conscious of before. I used to take years to rework my tales as I learned my craft. Now I realize how I'm #writing my stories, with the layers my friends talk about. Beginning this week I drafted a piece (beginning, middle & end) that was 1,604 words. The next day it was 2,705 words. A few days later it was 3,917 words. Yesterday, it was 4,303 words. Anyone else follow a similar process? #writingcommunity
