Video games developer, writer, composer.

I wrote Chimera and Code is Just.

I built PlayStation Strategic Content.

I podcast at Remaster on Relay FM.

I replaced Ubuntu with Pop! OS and am mightily impressed. I could be spending a lot more time on Linux, but what keeps bringing me back to the Mac are the following brilliant apps:

- Day One
- Drafts
- Bike
- ivory

And I think that's it really.

TheCosmic tiling desktop manager (if that's what it's called) is so good. The OS as a whole just seems less attention-seeking, if that makes any sense.

If you’re doing #gamedev on #linux , which distro are you using? Which tools are necessary and useful?
Does anyone happen to know if a larger version of the Sharp Memory LCD screen is available than the gorgeous one used in the Playdate?

Long shot, but has anyone got their hands on a Daylight DC1 yet? I'd love to know if that display is as good as they're claiming it to be.

I currently use an Onyx Boox with external keyboard for some writing, but the response time is slow. I love the display though, so if the DC1 is as good, then I'm likely in.

On the rare occasion I want to listen to a podcast on an Android device, I would have used Google's app, but like many of their products and services, it's disappearing. The suggested alternative isn't palatable.

I won't use YouTube Music for podcasts, just as I don't use Spotify. Podcasts aren't subject to the same centralising forces as music, for now, and treating them like music is dumb.

I'll stick with @overcastfm on iPhone.

A bit of fun for this week’s column: I turned my massive iPad Pro into a handheld games console – and it’s every bit as weird as it sounds • https://www.stuff.tv/features/i-used-a-gamesir-x2s-controller-to-turn-my-12-9in-ipad-pro-into-a-handheld-console-and-its-every-bit-as-weird-as-that-sounds/

It’ll be interesting to see where the knock-on effects of the Yuzu lawsuit end. Ripples are already having a wider impact than some folks thought. https://www.theverge.com/2024/3/5/24091561/nintendo-lawsuit-fallout-yuzu

Of course, if people quit projects or even shut emulation channels purely out of fear of a Nintendo lawsuit, Nintendo gets precisely what it wants. But that also further erodes protecting gaming history.

(Note: I’m not a fan of emulating current systems. But Nintendo would ideally see all emulation gone.)

The Nintendo DS emulator Drastic is now free as Yuzu lawsuit fallout begins

One day after the Nintendo Switch emulator Yuzu utterly folded in the face of Nintendo’s lawsuit, DS emulator Drastic has gone free on Android — and more.
