The red-footed tortoise (Chelonoidis carbonarius) is a species of tortoise from northern South America. They make a distinct clucking sound that resembles a barnyard chicken during mating. They eat sand or dirt too along with plants, are a highly social species which share burrows. Due to their sharing hiding places, they leave scent trails for others to follow. They communicate through complex head movements, can recognize humans.
