The Fediverse is often referred to as a decentralized "social network", but I think that misses some of the bigger ways that ActivityPub can make the web more open and user friendly.

Music lovers: it's #bandcampfriday. Everything you you pay for downloads on Bandcamp today goes to the artist (except the VAT (which is mandatory on all digital downloads (#grr))).
'So what's in it for me' I'm struggling to hear you ask? Well, I'm passing my savings to you by cutting the price of my "rich, sophisticated work", Finding Time (thank you R&R magazine), to come in at exactly a lousy fiver based on UK VAT rate.
