KDE has introduced Big screen mode.

I have been looking for something like that for years, especially for my gaming PC, media center raspberry and steam deck. Every time I had to switch to desktop mode it was a pain.

Love @kde recently

KDE Plasma 6.7 Beta Introduces Plasma Bigscreen Mode for HTPCs

The KDE Plasma Linux desktop environment is already a feature-rich desktop for both productivity and gaming, but the KDE development team has been hard at work adding ever more features to the DE and polishing the experience. One of the newest additions to KDE, apparently coming in Plasma 6.7 and no...

Every time #Signal says that they will pull out of a country if some law is passed, they remind everyone that they are a single point of failure. How many times have you ever heard that email will pull out of a country if some surveillance law is passed?

EDIT: Yes, of course this has the usual flurry of people saying 'Don't like Signal? Use {thing that is worse than Signal and no one who cares about security takes seriously}'. Please just stop. I am using Signal because I have evaluated alternatives and Signal is the least bad. That doesn't mean I'm going to stop criticising it and it doesn't mean I'm going to use something worse.

Gone are fossil fuels and meat ads. Ad boards in the Dutch capital now promote the Art, The Rijksmuseum, the national museum of the Netherlands, and a piano concert. Until last week it was chicken nuggets, SUVs and low-budget holidays.

Amsterdam bans public adverts for meat and fossil fuels

Local politicians say the move is in line with the Dutch capital's environmental targets.

Actually had to verify my age on Steam to do my job.

Can the UK just fuck off with this silliness already.

Anyone hiring?

My work told me they will not be giving me a job after my apprenticeship (as a Developer) ends in the summer. I am skilled in DevOps and have great joy in organising things (from confluence spaces to events.. I do it all). I have a permit for carrying weaponised autism in problem solving. I do volunteering work in first aid and like basic human rights for all.

Thank you to everyone for boosting!

As someone who has been programming since being a young teenager, things like this make me enormously sad.

If I was banned from being part of tech communities until the age of 16 or even 18 I would've never been able to learn all I did. I would've never been able to truly get into FOSS.

I would've never had a chance to become who I now am.

Age verification is literally killing the ability for kids and teens to excitedly participate and learn cool stuff and learn how to have digital agency.

Not saying I boost a lot but a nice person here asked me earlier if it's deliberate or if there's been a technical problem with my account 👍
Kids claimed the streets of Oxford in Kidical Mass, a family bike ride, today. Our photographer Roger Close went along for the ride. Can you spot yourself?

They came on balance bikes, cargo bikes, tandems, bikes with stabilisers, bikes with doll seats, and just plain bikes. But they filled the city with energy, and joy, and the tinkling of bicycle bells. Organised by cycle campaign group Cyclox, Kidical Mass claimed the streets of Oxford for the afternoon

Someone just took a shit on our driveway... Not a nice way to end the weekend

Edit: I realise my original phrasing sort of made it sound like I had arranged for this to happen. Like I had ordered some kind of shitting as a service.

For now my own site is on CloudFlare as it's free. It's also my registrar after Gandi went to shit and it handles email for all the domains where I don't have actual email accounts.

What's the "better" way to do all this in 2026? I took this path as the time to do it was paramount at the time. These days I think I finally have some bandwidth to do this better.
