We're swamped here today, with some large licensed farm orders and lots of home grow customers, but at some point here I'll do a little thread on the state of the CA cannabis economy from our perspective. On the one hand, we're one of the few legacy businesses that is still here and viable (mostly because we never had investors or grew above out means to quickly adapt); on the other hand, we've already scaled back this season and we'll likely have to scale back more next season (May-July 2026).
We do have some ideas to make things run smoother and make it easier to connect with our customers, so hopefully that will help us maintain at least our present staff.
Anyway, that will all wait for later, since I have to go load up a trailer full of plants!

A quick note here that this Sunday, July 20th will be our last day for the 2025 season. If you want to come up and get plants, do it quick!

For years we talked about adding pots of flowers to the nursery to pretty it up a little bit. This year we added a bunch of them in front and a few big sunflowers in the back. Next year I think we will do a line of tall sunflowers and other flowers across the whole back perimeter of the nursery.
We are now in the last weeks of our season here, so this is the time to get plants, especially since nearly everything is on sale.
Since we cater to outdoor cultivators, we typically sell out sometime in late July. there is still enough veg time left in the season for these plants to produce multiple pounds in the hands of an experienced gardener.

Hint: if you are a gardener who knows how to grow tomatoes well, you already know 90% of growing cannabis outdoors.
There are lots of other tricks like how to support the branches or train the plant and many more about harvest and curing, but if you can grow successful tomatoes, you'll do fine with weed.

We'll likely only be doing a couple more deliveries this year, since pretty soon all the plants will be too big to fit in the truck.
The folks at Urban Farm Oasis in Berkeley have graciously let us use their place as the pick up location, so if you need urban farming, gardening, beekeeping or chicken supplies, give them some support and tell them we sent you.

The nursery it's looking pretty nice this afternoon. We still have our sale on the really tall plants, the ones the winds keeps blowing over. We have a small crew this year and I had to do some irrigation pond water management, so didn't make it to the NoKings protest today, alas.
Even though cannabis is legal in California, there is a faction of religious right wing extremists who want to go back to the Nancy Reagan days of "just say no." If it went to the Supreme Court as a state's rights case, we can probably guess how that would go right now.
Mentioning this because there are a lot of people in the cannabis world who want to pretend they're apolitical, as if they've forgotten the whole War on Drugs ever existed, or they assume that it will never come back.

We receive lots of such photos and you know what? So far every single one has either been clearly female or too early to tell. But we're happy to take a look.
Do you grow #cannabis from seed? Wondering how to tell male plants from female plants early? These two photos show you what we look for in the nursery. For us, since we guarantee plants are female, it's important to be able to sex them as early as possible. (Identifying a plant's or animal's sex is known as "sexing" them.)
We use a jeweler's visor in order to keep our hands free, but a magnifying glass or good eyesight works fine. Look for the little preflowers 3-5 nodes down from the top.
